Easy and Efficient Recovery of EMIMCl from Cellulose Solutions by Addition of Acetic Acid and the Transition from the Original Ionic Liquid to an Eutectic Mixture

Huan Zhang et al.

Summary: Ionic liquids and deep eutectic solvents are widely used neoteric solvents. By adding acetic acid to 1-Ethyl-3-methylimidazolium chloride, the transition from the original ionic liquid to a eutectic mixture of EMIMCl and AcOH can be promoted. The study investigated the effects of this transition on cellulose regeneration and EMIMCl recovery, and demonstrated the potential application for obtaining highly acetylated cellulose.

Research on the degradation behaviors of wood pulp cellulose in ionic liquids

Jia Wei et al.

Summary: This study systematically investigated the degradation behavior of wood pulped cellulose in three phosphate-based ionic liquids under different conditions. The results showed that the degradation degree was influenced by dissolution temperature, dissolution time, and the type of IL used. Moreover, no reducing sugar was detected during the degradation of regenerated cellulose.

Lewis base enhanced neutral deep eutectic solvent pretreatment for enzymatic hydrolysis of corn straw and lignin characterization

Junxian Xie et al.

Summary: A novel method using Lewis bases as catalysts was proposed to improve the pretreatment behavior of neutral deep eutectic solvent (DES) for corn straw. The DES with Na2SO3, NaAC, and Na2CO3 effectively removed most of the hemicellulose and lignin, leading to a significant increase in glucose yield and production of well-preserved regenerated lignin.

Thermodynamics of aggregation and modulation of Rheo-Thermal properties of hydroxypropyl cellulose by imidazolium ionic liquids

Francieli Isa Ziembowicz et al.

Summary: This paper investigates the thermodynamic and rheological properties of cellulose derivatives/ionic liquids mixtures for enhanced oil recovery. The results show that the addition of ionic liquids significantly increases the viscosity of the solutions and delays the phase separation. These findings have opened up new possibilities for the design of complex mixtures.

Synergistic Enhancement Effect of Compound Additive of Organic Alcohols and Biosurfactant on Enzymatic Hydrolysis of Lignocellulose

Cuiyi Liang et al.

Summary: The study revealed that the combination of organic alcohols and a biosurfactant can significantly enhance the enzymatic conversion rate, particularly for pretreated wood, during lignocellulosic biomass bioconversion. The use of compound additives can greatly improve the stability and conversion rate of cellulase, highlighting the potential for improving enzymatic hydrolysis efficiency in lignocellulose-to-biofuel conversion.

Improved value and carbon footprint by complete utilization of corncob lignocellulose

Bo Pang et al.

Summary: The study proposes a biorefinery strategy EXA based on the xylose industry, incorporating four stages to consecutively produce ethanol, xylose, and adhesive with a total carbon utilization of 79.6%. The key innovation is the direct production of high-quality adhesive from a lignin-rich liquid fraction, significantly improving process sustainability. Techno-economic analysis shows a revenue increase of over 110 times compared to current processes, with a lower CO2 footprint from an environmental perspective.
