Pathways to Digital Service Innovation: The Role of Digital Transformation Strategies in Established Organizations

Summary: Digital technologies are transforming the way organizations design services, and digital transformation strategies are used to transition from product-centric to service-centric business models. However, little is known about the configurations of these strategies that lead to successful digital service innovation (DSI). This study identifies different configurations of digital transformation strategies that contribute to both successful and unsuccessful DSI. The threat of digital disruption negatively impacts innovation activities, strategic partnerships are important for organizations facing digital disruption, and the involvement of C-level executives is crucial for successful DSI.

Summary: In the era of digital economy, digital transformation has become a new approach for firms to gain competitive advantages. This study aims to discover the key factors and mechanisms of digital transformation for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs). The results show that technological and environmental factors have a positive impact on organizational capabilities, which in turn promote the success of digital transformation for SMEs. Additionally, employee skills positively moderate the relationship between organizational capabilities and the success of digital transformation.
