Investigation of the forced-convection heat-transfer in the boiler flue-gas heat recovery units employing the real-time measured database

Wei Zhang et al.

Summary: The study used a real-time measurement database to analyze heat transfer in flue-gas heat recovery units, establishing a semi-experimental formula to address the relationship between dew point temperature and heat transfer coefficient. The research found that the heat transfer coefficient is sensitive to the inlet temperature of cooling water, and also established a dimensionless formula to address the relationship among convection heat transfer coefficient and other operational parameters.

Heat transfer and pressure drop performance evaluation of twisted and bent fins when steam flows through the tubes

Hao Zhou et al.

Summary: This investigation studied the heat transfer and resistance characteristics of a serrated helical finned tube under steam in tube condition. A bent serrated spiral finned tube was proposed based on the traditional design. The results showed that the bent fins improved heat transfer rate and pressure drop compared to ordinary fins. Increasing steam flow enhanced heat transfer performance without significantly affecting pressure drop. Overall performance evaluation indicated that the bend fin with a small fin pitch outperformed the traditional design by 15.18-17.05%. A correlation for Colburn factor and friction factor was also fitted for practical engineering suggestions.

Local heat transfer coefficients of R32 and R410A boiling inside a brazed plate heat exchanger (BPHE)

Giovanni A. Longo et al.

Summary: This paper presents the local heat transfer coefficients of R32 and R410A boiling inside a Brazed Plate Heat Exchanger. A new and innovative test section was designed and manufactured for measuring the local heat transfer coefficient in refrigerant two-phase heat transfer. The experimental results show that R32 and R410A exhibit similar boiling heat transfer coefficients, and nucleate boiling is the dominant heat transfer regime. The consolidated correlations for boiling inside BPHE agree well with the experimental data.

Multi-objective constructal design for a marine boiler considering entropy generation rate and power consumption

Huijun Feng et al.

Summary: A marine boiler model composed of major heat transfer components is constructed in this study, and its design and optimization are performed. The results show that by changing the dimensions of the components, the weighted sum function can be minimized. After optimization, the performance of the marine boiler is significantly improved, meeting multiple design requirements for practical boilers.

Sources of air pollutants from a Tier 2 ocean-going container vessel: Main engine, auxiliary engine, and auxiliary boiler

Cavan McCaffery et al.

Summary: This study evaluated the gaseous and particulate emissions from a Tier 2 oceangoing vessel using two emission control area (ECA) compliant fuels. Results showed that the novel ultra-low sulfur heavy fuel oil (ULSHFO) had slightly higher nitrogen oxide (NOx) emissions for both the main and auxiliary engines, and significantly increased NOx emissions for the auxiliary boiler. Additionally, ULSHFO had higher PM2.5 and black carbon emissions, with little contribution of sulfate due to the low sulfur content in both fuels.

Development of a new method for estimating the overall heat transfer coefficient of heat exchangers - Validation in automotive applications

Ahmad Faraj et al.

Summary: Predicting heat exchangers performance is crucial in machine design, especially when industrial environments demand size reduction or cost saving. Traditional empirical methods lack physical meaning, prompting the development of a semi-empirical method presented in this study. Experimental validation shows low relative errors for both the proposed method and mathematical approaches.
