MaxEnt Modelling and Impact of Climate Change on Habitat Suitability Variations of Economically Important Chilgoza Pine (Pinus gerardiana Wall.) in South Asia

Arshad Mahmood Khan et al.

Summary: This study aimed to investigate the potential habitat suitability variations and factors influencing the distribution of Chilgoza pine. By analyzing multiple environmental variables, the study found that the predictive models for the presence of Chilgoza pine had high accuracy, and the potentially suitable habitat for this species had shrunk in Afghanistan, India, and China. Overall, the study suggested a continuous range contraction for Chilgoza pine and provided important insights for conservation and management plans in the region.

A Detailed Ecological Exploration of the Distribution Patterns of Wild Poaceae from the Jhelum District (Punjab), Pakistan

Muhammad Majeed et al.

Summary: The purpose of this study was to investigate the taxonomic diversity, richness, and distribution patterns of Poaceae in the Jhelum district of the Pakistan Himalayas. The study found 52 Poaceae species in the area, with 45 native species and 7 invasive species. The leaf size spectra of grasses were dominated by microphylls and nanophylls. The study also revealed that environmental factors had a significant impact on vegetation associations.

Spatiotemporal Distribution Patterns of Climbers along an Abiotic Gradient in Jhelum District, Punjab, Pakistan

Muhammad Majeed et al.

Summary: This study examined the taxonomic diversity, richness, and distribution patterns of climber communities in the western Himalayas and investigated the influence of abiotic factors on their distributions. The results revealed that abiotic factors significantly affected the distribution patterns and structures of climber communities. These findings are essential for understanding the biological, ecological, and economic value of climbers and for forest management and ecological restoration in the Himalayas.

Predicting the Suitable Current and Future Potential Distribution of the Native Endangered Tree Tecomella undulata (Sm.) Seem. in Pakistan

Fahim Arshad et al.

Summary: This study predicts the potentially suitable areas for Tecomella undulata restoration in Pakistan and identifies the key climatic factors influencing its distribution. The research finds that the highly suitable area for T. undulata is expected to increase under climate change, which is significant for the further development of its management and conservation techniques.

Vegetation analysis and environmental indicators of an arid tropical forest ecosystem of Pakistan

Muhammad Majeed et al.

Summary: The composition and co-existence of vegetation are influenced by environmental variations in any region. This study explored the vegetation types and their driving environmental factors in the arid-tropical zone of district Jhelum, Pakistan. The findings revealed the significance of various environmental variables such as distance from the river, altitude, latitude, slope, temperature, rainfall, distance from cropland, grazing and deforestation pressure, and soil pollutants in determining plant species composition and diversity. The study also emphasized the need for immediate attention to protect the local biodiversity from anthropogenic disturbances and potentially toxic metals.

DIVERSITY OF INVASIVE ALIEN PLANTS SPECIES OF LESSER HIMALAYAS-PAKISTAN

Farida Anjum et al.

Summary: The objective of this study is to comprehensively account for the diversity of invasive alien plants in the Lesser Himalayas of Pakistan. The study documents a total of 73 invasive alien species, categorizing them by family, habit, nativity, mode of introduction, and global distribution. The analysis shows that the majority of invasive species are intentionally introduced, with trade being the most common mode of introduction. The study also highlights the negative impacts of plant invasions on indigenous flora and ecosystem functions, emphasizing the urgent need for planning strategies and control measures to mitigate these adverse effects.

Railways redistribute plant species in mountain landscapes

Irfan Rashid et al.

Summary: The study reveals significant changes in plant communities in the Kashmir Himalaya after the construction of railways, indicating a profound impact of human activities on ecosystems. Over time, both native and non-native species richness decreased while the abundance of non-native species significantly increased at higher elevations, suggesting the importance of migration and competition in plant community succession.
