Risks in the European Transmission System and a Novel Restoration Strategy for a Power System after a Major Blackout

Georgios Fotis et al.

Summary: Many citizens of European countries may soon experience a long and extensive blackout due to the unpredictability of renewable energy sources, cyber-attacks, and other factors. This paper discusses the possibility of blackouts in the interconnected European electricity transmission system and examines the causes of past major European blackouts. It also presents a restoration strategy based on the A* Algorithm to ensure fast and reliable supply after a blackout, validated in the IEEE-39 and IEEE-68 bus systems.

Techno-Economic Optimization of an Off-Grid Hybrid Power Generation for SRM IST, Delhi-NCR Campus

Shilpa Sambhi et al.

Summary: The limited availability of fossil fuels and the increasing air pollution levels caused by burning them have led to a shift from fossil fuel-based electricity generation to locally available renewable resources. This study proposes the installation of a solar PV system in a part of an academic building at SRM IST University. By analyzing its performance and carrying out techno-economic analysis, the feasibility of the system was demonstrated.

European energy politics after Ukraine: The road ahead

Jan Osicka et al.

Summary: By invading Ukraine and weaponizing its gas supplies to Europe, Russia has made natural gas unstable and costly. The implications of this war for European energy politics will lead to a focus on reducing energy vulnerability and accelerating decarbonization, possibly at the expense of further development of the EU integrated energy market.
