Enhancing hydrolysis and syntropy simultaneously in solid state anaerobic digestion: Digester performance and techno-economic evaluation

Kunwar Paritosh et al.

Summary: The study found that adding alkali and biochar to solid state anaerobic digestion of pearl millet straw can increase hydrolysis and syntropy, leading to higher methane production. The optimal dosing was found to be 0.5 g alkali and 10 g/L biochar, with biochar contributing 48% and alkali contributing 21% to the multiple output. Confirmation tests showed improved hydrolysis rate constant and volatile fatty acid/alkalinity ratio under optimized conditions compared to control. Techno-economic assessment revealed a net present value of US$ 25,652 and an internal rate of return of 11.29%, with capital expenditure and methane yield being the most sensitive factors.

Enhancement of CO2 desorption using ultrasound and vacuum in water scrubbing biogas upgrading system

Fuqiang Jin et al.

Summary: The research findings suggest that vacuum has a strong enhancement effect on CO2 desorption, significantly reducing the amount of stripping air and energy consumption. In contrast, the enhancement effect of ultrasound on CO2 desorption in the desorption column with air stripping is not as significant as vacuum, even though it can affect static CO2 desorption.

Vacuum pressure swing adsorption process with carbon molecular sieve for CO2 separation from biogas

Yuanhui Shen et al.

Summary: The study investigated a 3-bed 6-step VPSA process for biogas upgrading using CMS adsorbent, achieving high purity CH4 product with high CH4 recovery. Lower feed velocity and longer cycle time can improve CH4 purity, while lower desorption pressure is more efficient in regenerating the adsorbent compared to increasing the P/F ratio. Mathematical modeling using a bi-linear driving force mass transfer model was validated through experiments.
