Removal of stable and radio isotopes from wastewater by using modified microcrystalline cellulose based on Taguchi L16

M. M. A. Dawoud et al.

Summary: Water pollution caused by rapid industrial growth is a global challenge. Researchers have been exploring cost-effective and environmentally friendly materials to remove heavy metal pollutants. In this study, chemically modified microcrystalline cellulose (Mc-CA) was found to be a powerful chelator for removing cobalt and cesium ions from water bodies. By using the Taguchi robust design approach, the optimal combination of factors including ion concentration, pH value, adsorbent dosage, and contact time was determined for efficient heavy metal removal.

Utilization of synthetic nano-cryptomelane for enhanced scavenging of cesium and cobalt ions from single and binary solutions

M. Ghaly et al.

Summary: The study confirmed the feasibility of using nano-cryptomelane for the elimination of cobalt and cesium metal ions, with characterization showing a tunnel structure and particle size range. Batch experiments were conducted to determine the kinetic and equilibrium performance of the removal process, with Langmuir isotherm model found to be more fitting than Freundlich model for the equilibrium studies.

A rapid and efficient adsorptive removal of lead from water using graphene oxide prepared from waste dry cell battery

Md Golam Azam et al.

Summary: This research focused on the adsorption of lead (Pb) from water using graphene oxide (GO) synthesized from waste dry cell battery graphite. The study showed that GO successfully removed 98.87% of Pb (10 ppm) in just 20 minutes under optimal conditions. The oxygenated groups on the surface of GO played a crucial role in the adsorption process.

Effect of Temperature on the Diffusion and Sorption of Cations in Clay Vermiculite

Cailun Wang et al.

Summary: The MD method was used to model vermiculite containing Na+, Rb+, Cs+, Mg2+, and Ba2+ cations. The results showed that weak clay swelling did not significantly affect the diffusion of water and cations through vermiculite. However, at high water content in vermiculite, the temperature had a greater impact on the diffusion coefficient of water compared to cations. The study also found that alkali and alkaline earth metal cations compete with Na+ ions for surface adsorption sites in the clay layer, and alkaline earth metal cations are located between the clay layers due to their higher charge and stronger hydration. Furthermore, alkaline earth metal cations had little effect on the temperature dependence of the diffusion coefficient of Na+.

Adsorption isotherm and kinetics for the removal of nitrate from wastewater using chicken feather fiber

O. O. Elemile et al.

Summary: This study assessed the adsorption capacity of modified chicken feathers (MCFs) for nitrate, and investigated the influence of various experimental conditions on the adsorption performance. The results showed that MCFs had a larger specific surface area and favorable adsorption site formation. By evaluating various adsorption isotherm equations and kinetic models, the optimum adsorption parameters were determined. The study suggests that MCFs could be used as an eco-friendly, cost-effective, and renewable bio-sorbent for nitrate removal in wastewater treatment.

Novel coated wire potentiometric sensor for selective determination of Mn(II) ions in various authentic samples

Refaat F. Aglan et al.

Summary: The study introduces a novel covered platinum wire ion-selective electrode sensor relying on Schiff base N-salicylidene-o-aminophenol as an ionophore for rapid monitoring of Mn(II) in various real samples. With low response time, high stability, and good selectivity, this sensor is suitable for evaluating and detecting Mn(II) ions in diverse samples.
