High-throughput nanoscale liposome formation via electrohydrodynamic-based micromixer

L. Trabzon et al.

Summary: This study aims to simulate the high-throughput formation of nanoscale liposomes using an active electrohydrodynamic-based micromixer. The presence of an electrical field inside the microchannel generates chaotic advection, leading to an increase in the formation of liposomes. The Taguchi method is used to optimize the experimental design, resulting in a 5.3% error between the predicted and simulated results.

Experimental study on the performance of a mini-scale Y-type mixer with two liquid metal-enabled pumps

A. Mohammad Jafarpour et al.

Summary: This study experimentally investigated the mixing process of two liquids inside an open minichannel in the presence of liquid metal and an electric field. The effects of mixing angle, applied voltage, and Reynolds number on the mixing process were analyzed. The results showed that increasing the voltage signal led to an increase in mixing intensity, creating chaotic advection in the minichannel. The input angle also played a crucial role in the mixing process.

Fabrication Methods for Microscale 3D Structures on Silicon Carbide

Younghak Cho et al.

Summary: Silicon carbide (SiC) is a promising material for various industrial applications due to its wide bandgap, high thermal stability, and wear resistance. However, fabricating micro-features on SiC is costly and time-consuming. This paper reviews the state-of-the-art processes for fabricating micro-3D structures on SiC and discusses their advantages and limitations to guide process selection.

Machining characteristics of glass substrates containing chemical components in femtosecond laser helical drilling

Hyeon-Min Lee et al.

Summary: In this study, the machining characteristics of glass substrates containing chemical components were investigated for femtosecond laser helical drilling. The research found that the drilling conditions for each glass substrate were affected by its chemical components, particularly the percentage of Al(2)O(3) and MgO components. Increasing the percentage of Al(2)O(3) and MgO components in the glass substrates resulted in a decrease in ablation threshold energy and greater vertical speed of the laser head.

Experimental Study on Micro-Grinding of Ceramics for Micro-Structuring

Yung Na et al.

Summary: In this study, micro-grinding was conducted to investigate the machining performance of alumina and zirconia. The use of polycrystalline diamond (PCD) as the tool material and micro-electrical discharge machining (EDM) for fabricating PCD micro-tools were effective in machining hard and brittle ceramics. Controlling the working capacitance in micro-EDM allowed for achieving different edge radii and tool surface roughness, resulting in reduced cutting force and improved surface finish.

Interface study of the fluids in passive micromixers by altering the geometry of inlets

S. Rahbarshahlan et al.

Summary: This study investigated the improvement of mixing process in a T-shape micromixer, emphasizing the significance of mixing process in microfluidics system. The results showed that an increase in Reynolds number generally increased the mixing coefficient, but specific conditions could disrupt this trend. Factors influencing mixing quality include location, rotation direction, vortexes, and Reynolds number.
