Effect of a Novel Hybrid Nanocomposite of Cisplatin-Chitosan on Induced Tissue Injury as a Suggested Drug by Reducing Cisplatin Side Effects

Nagi M. El-Shafai et al.

Summary: The self-assembly of cisplatin and chitosan nanoparticles has been successfully synthesized and characterized, showing a reduction in the side effects of cisplatin and a protective effect on liver, testis, and kidney cells. The hybrid nanocomposite improved spermatogenic cells, seminiferous tubules, and Leydig cells, indicating its potential for mitigating the adverse effects of cisplatin.

Could Cisplatin Loading on Biosynthesized Silver Nanoparticles Improve Its Therapeutic Efficacy on Human Prostate Cancer Cell Line and Reduce Its In Vivo Nephrotoxic Effects?

Sawsan M. A. El-Sheikh et al.

Summary: The study compared the cytotoxic activity and side effects of cisplatin with cisplatin-loaded green silver nanoparticles in cancer therapy. It was found that CP-AgNPs exhibited superior cytotoxic effects on prostate cancer cells while causing fewer side effects in vivo, indicating a more efficient and safer anticancer agent potential.

Thymoquinone nanoparticles protect against cisplatin-induced nephrotoxicity in Ehrlich carcinoma model without compromising cisplatin anti-cancer efficacy

Steve Harakeh et al.

Summary: This study evaluated the protective effects of a novel nanoparticle encapsulating thymoquinone (THY) against cisplatin (CISP)-induced nephrotoxicity. The results showed that NP THY effectively prevented kidney toxicity, improved kidney function and pathology. It also ameliorated oxidative stress conditions and reduced inflammation induced by CISP in the kidney tissue.

Baicalein-loaded silk fibroin peptide nanofibers protect against cisplatin-induced acute kidney injury: Fabrication, characterization and mechanism

Shuai Liu et al.

Summary: In this study, silk fibroin peptide/baicalein nanofibers were used to protect against cisplatin-induced acute kidney injury. The nanofibers enhanced the water solubility and antioxidant activity of baicalein, and relieved cisplatin-induced cell damage and oxidative stress. Mechanism studies revealed that the nanofibers exerted their protective effects by inhibiting DNA damage and the activation of the cGAS/STING pathway.

A Micellar Formulation of Quercetin Prevents Cisplatin Nephrotoxicity

Alfredo G. Casanova et al.

Summary: This study demonstrated that a micellar formulation of Pluronic F127-encapsulated quercetin (P-quercetin) was more effective in increasing the bioavailability of quercetin and protecting the kidneys in rats when compared to natural quercetin. P-quercetin not only reduced plasma creatinine and urea levels induced by the nephrotoxic drug cisplatin, but also improved some renal function parameters. The new formulation with enhanced properties can potentially lead to the development of quercetin as a nephroprotective agent in clinical settings at lower dosages.
