Optical thermometry based on upconversion luminescence of Ba3Gd(2)F(12): Yb3+/Er3+ nanocrystals embedded in glass ceramics

Liang Li et al.

Summary: Transparent glass ceramics containing Ba3Gd2F12:Yb3+/Er3+ nanocrystals were successfully prepared using the traditional melt quenching method, with their structure and upconverted luminescent properties studied in detail. These glass ceramics exhibited longer lifetime and higher emission intensity compared to precursor glass. Additionally, the temperature dependence of fluorescence intensity ratio was investigated, showing maximum relative sensitivity at 296 K. These results suggest that the GCs embedded with Ba3Gd2F12:Yb3+/Er3+ nanocrystals could be a promising candidate for optical temperature sensors.
