Encapsulation of Gold Nanoparticles into Redesigned Ferritin Nanocages for the Assembly of Binary Superlattices Composed of Fluorophores and Gold Nanoparticles

Marcel Lach et al.

Summary: In this study, protein nanocages were used as nanoscale building blocks for the assembly of gold nanoparticles and fluorescent molecules, resulting in the synthesis of binary nanomaterials with highly ordered structures. The cargo was encapsulated into the protein nanocages using a dis- and reassembly approach. The strong exciton-plasmon coupling between the encapsulated fluorophores and gold nanoparticles was observed in the binary crystals.

Dynamic, Polymer-Integrated Crystals for Efficient, Reversible Protein Encapsulation

Kenneth Han et al.

Summary: Researchers have developed a new material called polymer-integrated crystals (PIX) that combines the structural order of protein crystals with the dynamic and stimuli-responsive properties of synthetic polymers. PIX can effectively encapsulate proteins with high loading efficiencies and enable pH-controlled uptake/release through electrostatic interactions.

Reduction of protein-bound uraemic toxins in plasma of chronic renal failure patients: A systematic review

V. Saar-Kovrov et al.

Summary: This systematic review found that there is currently no technique universally suitable for optimum reduction of all protein-bound uraemic toxins (PBUTs). Further research is needed in this field to identify more effective methods for reducing PBUTs in patients with chronic kidney disease.

An Innovative Synbiotic Formulation Decreases Free Serum Indoxyl Sulfate, Small Intestine Permeability and Ameliorates Gastrointestinal Symptoms in a Randomized Pilot Trial in Stage IIIb-IV CKD Patients

Carmela Cosola et al.

Summary: The study investigated the impact of using NATUREN G(R) on proteolytic dysbiosis of gut microbiota and uremic toxins in CKD patients. The results showed that the synbiotic formulation can lower free IS levels, improve intestinal permeability, and alleviate gastrointestinal symptoms in CKD patients.
