2D Materials Bridging Experiments and Computations for Electro/Photocatalysis

Xu Zhang et al.

Summary: The exploration of catalysts for energy conversion is crucial for sustainable development, with a focus on the unique properties of 2D materials investigated through a combination of experiments and computations. Recent advances have led to the development and design of 2D electro/photocatalysts, bridging the gap between experimental and computational methods. Challenges in computations and experiments for 2D catalysts are also discussed.

Adsorption of Transition-Metal Clusters on Graphene and N-Doped Graphene: A DFT Study

Chengkai Jin et al.

Summary: Using DFT-D3 method, the adsorption of 15 types of transition metal clusters on graphene and N-doped graphene was systematically studied. The results show that clusters adsorbed on N-Gr surface have stronger interaction compared to those on Gr surface, while 3d series clusters exhibit similar geometries on both surfaces. The migration of preferred adsorption sites for transition metals is different on Gr and N-Gr surfaces, and the charge transfer is lower on N-Gr surface due to a change in growth mechanism. Additionally, clusters on N-Gr surface disperse more and exhibit a three-dimensional growth mode on Gr.

Progress, Advantages, and Challenges of Topological Material Catalysts

Ruikuan Xie et al.

Summary: Topological materials with exotic properties such as stable boundary states and spin-momentum-locking helicity have potential applications in catalytic reactions. Recent discoveries of high-performance catalysts among topological materials have opened up a new research field. Combining theoretical and experimental studies is necessary to understand the mechanisms behind the high performance of topological material catalysts (TMCs). In addition, heterostructures, dopants, and defects can be used to tune the catalytic activity of TMCs while retaining topological surface states.

Prediction of room-temperature ferromagnetism and large perpendicular magnetic anisotropy in a planar hypercoordinate FeB3 monolayer

Cheng Tang et al.

Summary: A highly stable, completely planar metalloborophene (alpha-FeB3) with exceptional magnetoelectronic properties was discovered through first-principles and global minimization methods. This material exhibits room-temperature ferromagnetism and nearly six times larger perpendicular magnetic anisotropy compared to other experimentally realized 2D magnets. Additionally, it shows Dirac transport behavior with high Fermi velocity in both spin channels, making it a promising candidate for advanced spintronics.
