A Universal Nonhalogenated Polymer Donor for High-Performance Organic Photovoltaic Cells

Tao Zhang et al.

Summary: Two nonhalogenated polymers, PB1 and PB2, were prepared and tested in organic photovoltaic cells. PB2 showed superior power conversion efficiency when combined with BTP-eC9 and PBDB-TF, as well as good compatibility with various nonfullerene acceptors. When combined with a wide-bandgap electron acceptor (F-BTA3), PB2 achieved excellent PCE, demonstrating its potential for developing low-cost materials and expanding the application of OPV cells.

Impact of Electrostatic Interaction on Bulk Morphology in Efficient Donor-Acceptor Photovoltaic Blends

Lijiao Ma et al.

Summary: The morphology of bulk heterojunctions in organic photovoltaic cells is crucial for charge generation, recombination, and transport, ultimately determining device performance. Enhancing the D-A interaction can benefit charge generation, but it may lead to severe charge recombination if domain purity is compromised. Fine-tuning the bulk morphology by modifying functional groups is essential for balancing charge generation and recombination in order to boost the efficiency of OPV cells.

Medium band-gap non-fullerene acceptors based on a benzothiophene donor moiety enabling high-performance indoor organic photovoltaics

Xiaojun Li et al.

Summary: This study reported the modification of the Y6 structure by replacing its D unit with benzothiophene, synthesizing two novel NFAs for indoor applications, LBT-DF and LBT-SCl. The use of benzothiophene unit resulted in blue-shifting of absorption spectra and up-shifting of LUMO energy levels of the NFAs, leading to higher V-oc and PCE compared to Y6. Interestingly, these NFAs exhibited a non-planar aromatic structure, which is rarely seen in published NFAs known for achieving high PCE.
