A study of QCD radiation in VBF Higgs production with VINCIA and PYTHIA

Stefan Hoche et al.

Summary: In this paper, we discuss and illustrate the properties of several parton-shower algorithms available in PYTHIA and VINCIA in the context of Higgs production via vector boson fusion (VBF). We study a set of observables sensitive to the coherent radiation pattern of additional jets and compare different algorithms. Additionally, we investigate the robustness of these predictions as higher-order perturbative matrix elements are incorporated.

Rings and strings: a basis for understanding subleading colour and QCD coherence beyond the two-jet limit

Jeffrey R. Forshaw et al.

Summary: Guided by the colour-diagonal structure of collinear singularities, this study identifies a set of kinematic basis functions that simplify soft gluon emission amplitudes. These basis functions improve the statistical convergence of the amplitude-evolution code and allow for extensions of current parton shower models beyond the azimuthally-averaged, two-jet limit.

Soft spin correlations in final-state parton showers

Keith Hamilton et al.

Summary: In this paper, we introduce a simple procedure to account for single-logarithmic spin-correlation effects in parton showers. The procedure is applied in the PanScales family of parton showers and a new non-global spin-sensitive observable is introduced. Comparisons to fixed-order matrix elements validate the approach and the work represents an important step in achieving the PanScales next-to-leading logarithmic accuracy goals.

Resummation of Super-Leading Logarithms

Thomas Becher et al.

Summary: Jet cross sections at high-energy colliders show intricate patterns of logarithmically enhanced higher-order corrections, with non-global logs emerging from soft radiation emitted off energetic partons inside jets. While this is a single-log effect at lepton colliders, at hadron colliders, phase factors in the amplitudes lead to double-log corrections starting at four-loop order.

Colour and logarithmic accuracy in final-state parton showers

Keith Hamilton et al.

Summary: This work focuses on correcting the subleading-colour contributions to leading and next-to-leading logarithms (NLL) for a range of observables in final-state showers. Two simple and computationally efficient prescriptions are presented to address the issue, showing correct full colour NLL terms for global observables and multiplicities. Despite remaining subleading colour issues at NLL for non-global observables, one of the schemes reproduces the correct full-colour matrix-element for any number of energy-ordered commensurate-angle pairs of emissions.

Summary: The search for new interactions and particles in high-energy collider physics relies on precise background predictions, which have seen many advances in combining precise fixed-order cross-section calculations with detailed event generator simulations. Additionally, recent progress in fixed-order QCD calculations and differential results have opened up new possibilities in this field.

The role of colour flows in matrix element computations and Monte Carlo simulations

Stefano Frixione et al.

Summary: This article discusses how color flows can simplify the computation of matrix elements and enable parton shower Monte Carlos to achieve accuracy beyond leading color. By systematically employing these color flows, tree-level matrix elements and their soft limits can be given in a closed form that does not require any color algebra. Additionally, the study examines how color loops and dipole graphs can help extend the accuracy of Monte Carlos by including subleading-color effects.

CASCADE3 A Monte Carlo event generator based on TMDs

S. Baranov et al.

Summary: The Cascade3 Monte Carlo event generator is based on Transverse Momentum Dependent (TMD) parton densities and extends hard processes by adding transverse momenta according to TMD densities. It also applies dedicated TMD parton showers and hadronization, even for processes with off-shell kinematics. The initial state parton shower is closely tied to the TMD distribution, with all parameters fixed by the TMD distribution.

Improvements on dipole shower colour

Jack Holguin et al.

Summary: The dipole formalism provides a powerful framework for constructing parton showers. The proposed dipole shower with improved color accuracy has been shown to perform well after explicit checks at O(alpha(2)(s)). It was found that other dipole shower algorithms fail to achieve the same handling of angular-ordered radiation as a coherent branching algorithm.

Efficient multi-jet merging with the VINCIA sector shower

Helen Brooks et al.

Summary: The extension of the CKKW-L multi-jet merging technique to sector showers in VINCIA allows for efficient multi-jet merging at high multiplicities while retaining accuracy. The method reduces the complexity of constructing shower histories to a linear scaling with the number of final-state particles, with overall event generation time and memory footprint remaining approximately constant. Comparison with conventional CKKW-L implementation in PYTHIA shows promising results for high merged multiplicities.

Numerical resummation at subleading color in the strongly ordered soft gluon limit

Summary: A Monte Carlo approach for soft-gluon resummation at subleading color is presented to enhance existing parton shower algorithms. A proof-of-concept implementation to compute nonglobal event shapes at lepton colliders is provided.
