Microgrid Digital Twins: Concepts, Applications, and Future Trends

Summary: With the advancement of information and communication technologies, the concept of digital twinning has attracted attention worldwide. A microgrid digital twin (MGDT) is a digital representation of a microgrid that replicates the behavior of the physical system using high-fidelity models and real-time data exchange. MGDTs provide an efficient and secure way to manage historical and real-time data, supporting the design, operation management, and maintenance of microgrids. This paper introduces the concept of digital twinning and presents a workflow for establishing MGDTs, explores various applications of digital twinning in microgrids, and discusses future trends in MGDTs.
