BayesBeat: Reliable Atrial Fibrillation Detection from Noisy Photoplethysmography Data

Sarkar Snigdha Sarathi Das et al.

Summary: Smartwatches or fitness trackers have gained popularity as potential health tracking devices. Researchers have recently explored the possibility of real-time Atrial Fibrillation (AF) detection using photoplethysmography (PPG) data, which is widely available in smartwatches. However, the noise in smartwatch PPG signals poses a challenge for AF detection. In this paper, a novel deep learning approach called BayesBeat is proposed to accurately infer AF risks from noisy PPG signals and provide uncertainty estimate. Experimental results show that BayesBeat outperforms existing state-of-the-art methods and requires significantly fewer parameters, making it suitable for resource-constrained wearable devices.

Contactless Blood Pressure Measurement via Remote Photoplethysmography with Synthetic Data Generation Using Generative Adversarial Network

Bing-Fei Wu et al.

Summary: Deriving blood pressure non-invasively through photoplethysmography (PPG) signals is a familiar topic. This study proposes a multichannel rPPG-based blood pressure estimator, which tackles the issue of data scarcity by using generative adversarial networks to augment synthetic waveform data. InfoGAN is also applied to generate synthetic data that simulates the fluctuation of blood pressure based on controlled age and BMI combinations. Experimental results demonstrate that the proposed model outperforms existing methods in blood pressure estimation.

Synthetic photoplethysmography (PPG) of the radial artery through parallelized Monte Carlo and its correlation to body mass index (BMI)

Tananant Boonya-ananta et al.

Summary: Cardiovascular disease is a leading cause of death in the United States, with obesity significantly increasing the risk. Wearable devices are being developed for easier blood pressure monitoring for both physicians and patients. Researchers have developed a model to simulate photoplethysmographic waveforms from the radial artery at the volar surface of the wrist, observing the influence of body mass index on the signal.

Complementary Photoplethysmogram Synthesis From Electrocardiogram Using Generative Adversarial Network

Heean Shin et al.

Summary: The article introduces a method of generating PPG using a Generative Adversarial Network model with ECG input. Results show that in the test dataset, the generated PPG is morphologically similar to the reference PPG, and there are no significant differences in heart rate measured from the three biosignals. In the third dataset, the correlation coefficient between the generated PPG heart rate from atrial fibrillation ECG and the ECG heart rate is high, indicating that the proposed method provides a feasible solution for augmenting biosignal databases with rich signals.
