Responses of radial growth of Picea crassifolia to climate change over three periods at different elevations in the Qilian Mountains, northwest China

Summary: Qinghai spruce at different elevations in the Qilian Mountains showed inconsistent growth trends and responses to climate change. High elevation trees are primarily impacted by higher temperatures, while middle and low elevation trees are mainly impacted by water stress due to drought. The responses of trees to temperature and precipitation are unstable, with relatively stable responses observed at middle and low elevations. Different growth patterns were observed at the three elevations. Effective measures are necessary to manage forest ecosystems based on spatial and temporal adaptation strategies for climate change.
