Bacterial communities in the plant phyllosphere harbour distinct responders to a broad-spectrum pesticide

Xiaoyulong Chen et al.

Summary: The study found that pesticide application had impacts on bacterial communities colonizing plant phyllosphere, affecting both core and rare microbiomes. The interference of pesticides with phyllosphere bacteria was selective, potentially influencing interactions between plants and bacteria.

Efficacy of fungicides against peanut smut in Argentina

J. A. Paredes et al.

Summary: Peanut smut, caused by Thecaphora frezii, has become the main peanut disease in the main growing region of Argentina in the last decade. Despite the increase in incidence and prevalence, growers continue to produce peanut without implementing any disease management strategy. Chemical control of peanut smut can be moderately efficient and may complement cultivar genetic resistance and cultural practices in an integrated approach.

Phyllospheric Microbial Composition and Diversity of the Tobacco Leaves Infected by Didymella segeticola

Yu Huang et al.

Summary: The study utilized high-throughput sequencing to analyze the microbial diversity of tobacco leaves infected by Didymella segeticola, revealing significant influences of disease severity on phyllospheric microbial diversity. Pathotrophs and saprotrophs proportionally increased in abundance with disease severity, while the relative abundance of bacterial cell motility and membrane transport-related gene sequences elevated with increasing disease severity and tended to decrease at the highest severity level.

Sensitivity of Aspergillus flavus Isolates from Peanut Seeds in Georgia to Azoxystrobin, a Quinone outside Inhibitor (QoI) Fungicide

Md Emran Ali et al.

Summary: Aspergillus flavus infects peanuts and produces carcinogenic aflatoxin. In 2020, peanut seeds in Georgia had low germination due to contamination. Aspergillus isolates showed resistance to azoxystrobin, necessitating the development of new seed treatment fungicides.

Distribution of the potential pathogenic Alternaria on plant leaves determines foliar fungal communities around the disease spot

Jiemeng Tao et al.

Summary: This study found that the pathogenic Alternaria showed a significant decrease trend in the fungal communities surrounding brown spot disease, with the community structure diverging substantially from the disease spot. As the pathogenic Alternaria increased, diversity indexes showed a trend of increasing first and then decreasing, while total network links and average path distance exhibited strong negative and positive correlations with Alternaria, respectively. Five keystone members had direct interactions with pathogenic Alternaria, implicating their roles as 'pathogen facilitators' or 'pathogen antagonists' in the severity and development of brown spot disease.
