Partial Substitution of Chemical Fertilizers with Organic Supplements Increased Wheat Productivity and Profitability under Limited and Assured Irrigation Regimes

Imad Khan et al.

Summary: Crop wastes can be used together with synthetic fertilizers to improve crop productivity and soil fertility. A field experiment was conducted in Pakistan to study the combined effect of phosphorus and organic sources on wheat productivity under different irrigation regimes. The results showed that the combination of SSP and farmyard manure had the highest grain yield and was more profitable compared to other treatments. This study highlights the importance of using organic amendments in conjunction with synthetic fertilizers to enhance crop yield and economic benefits.

Changes in soil phosphorus forms in a long-term cropping system as influenced by fertilization and tillage

Satya Narayana Pradhan et al.

Summary: The imbalanced use of chemical fertilizers can deteriorate soil quality, but this can be reversed through organic matter management. Substituting fertilizer N with farmyard manure without correcting for extra phosphorus added may pose an environmental problem. Long-term experiments have shown that excessive phosphorus application could lead to an increase in soil phosphorus fractions, especially soluble P, potentially causing P loss to the environment through overland flow or leaching.
