Unraveling the mutualistic interaction between endophytic Curvularia lunata CSL1 and tomato to mitigate cadmium (Cd) toxicity via transcriptomic insights

Sajjad Asaf et al.

Summary: In this study, the bioremediation potential of endophytic fungus Curvularia lunata strain SL1 was explored, along with its impact on the growth of tomato plants under cadmium stress. The findings demonstrate that SL1 establishes a symbiotic relationship with tomato plants, modulating their antioxidant system, secondary metabolites, and gene expression in response to Cd stress. SL1 inoculation helps mitigate the reduction in tomato seedling growth caused by Cd stress and inhibits Cd absorption and translocation. Additionally, SL1 lowers the levels of stress-related phytohormones and influences the expression of genes involved in oxidoreductase activity, catalytic activity, plant hormone transduction, and photosynthesis. It is suggested that SL1 could enhance tomato tolerance to Cd stress through various mechanisms including Ca2+ signaling, phytohormone biosynthesis, MAPK signaling pathway, and transcription factors.

SlJAZ10 and SlJAZ11 mediate dark-induced leaf senescence and regeneration

Boyan Tang et al.

Summary: During evolutionary adaptation, plants establish mechanisms for self-regulation between normal growth and environmental stress. In this study, the expression of JAZ was found to be affected by leaf senescence. The positive regulatory effects of SlJAZ10 and SlJAZ11 on leaf senescence and plant regeneration were identified. The SlJAV1-SlWRKY51 complex was shown to suppress JA biosynthesis under normal growth conditions. SlJAZ10 and SlJAZ11 can regulate the activity of the JW complex through electrical signals and Ca2+ waves, affecting JA biosynthesis and causing differences in the regeneration phenotype between transgenic plants overexpressing SlJAZ10 and SlJAZ11. SlRbcs-3B was found to maintain the protein stability of SlJAZ11. Overall, SlJAZ10 and SlJAZ11 act as repressors of JA signaling to leaf senescence and regulate plant regeneration through coordinated electrical signals, Ca2+ waves, hormones and transcriptional regulation.

SIJAZ10 and SIJAZ11 mediate dark-induced leaf senescence and regeneration

Boyan Tang et al.

Summary: This study investigates the role of jasmonate and JAZ proteins in plant growth, stress response, and regeneration. It demonstrates that SIJAZ10 and SIJAZ11 positively regulate leaf senescence and plant regeneration. The SIJAV1-SIWRKY51 complex suppresses JA biosynthesis under normal growth conditions. SIJAZ10 and SIJAZ11 regulate the activity of the JW complex through electrical signals and Ca2+ waves, affecting JA biosynthesis and regeneration phenotype. SIRbcs-3B maintains the stability of SIJAZ11. These findings shed light on the mechanisms by which SIJAZ11 induces regeneration.

Sheng Ying

Summary: The DUF506 family of genes is widely distributed in photosynthetic organisms, with plant DUF506 genes showing functional preservation and evolutionary pressure. Subcellular protein localization and transcript analyses indicate that DUF506 proteins are responsive to external stimuli and nutrient deficiencies. Protein-protein interaction network analysis suggests that DUF506 genes are involved in environmental responses and Ca(2+) signaling.

Precision Mapping of a Maize MAGIC Population Identified a Candidate Gene for the Senescence-Associated Physiological Traits

Marlon Caicedo et al.

Summary: This study identified 36 candidate genes associated with maize senescence through genome-wide association studies, with 11 genes implicated in processes related to proteolysis, sugar transport, and sink activity. One candidate gene, Zm00001d043586, significantly influences chlorophyll degradation rate, a key determinant of senescence in maize. These findings contribute to a better understanding of the genetic basis of senescence in maize and provide potential molecular markers for marker assisted selection in line development.

The transcription factor WRKY32 affects tomato fruit colour by regulating YELLOW FRUITED-TOMATO 1, a core component of ethylene signal transduction

Weihua Zhao et al.

Summary: The transcription factor WRKY32 plays a crucial role in regulating tomato fruit color formation by binding to the YFT1 promoter region and inducing its expression, affecting ethylene signal transduction. WRKY32 regulates ethylene signaling in tomato fruit, leading to suppression of ethylene emission, delayed chromoplast development, decreased carotenoid accumulation, and a yellow fruit phenotype. These findings provide new insights into the regulatory networks governing tomato fruit color formation through ethylene signal transduction.
