Crystallographic snapshots of a B12-dependent radical SAM methyltransferase

Cameron D. Fyfe et al.

Summary: Methyl-coenzyme M reductase plays a central role in regulating global methane levels. The study of Methanosarcina acetivorans' Mmp10 provides insights into its unique enzyme structure and catalytic control mechanism, as well as the structural changes prior to catalysis. This research is important for understanding the catalytic mechanism of the emerging superfamily of B-12-dependent radical SAM enzymes.

Metabolomic Responses of Green Alga Chlamydomonas reinhardtii Exposed to Sublethal Concentrations of Inorganic and Methylmercury

Vera Slaveykova et al.

Summary: Metabolomics was used to study the response of green alga to sublethal concentrations of inorganic mercury and monomethylmercury. The alga adjusted its metabolism by increasing levels of various metabolites involved in different pathways after exposure to low concentrations of mercury compounds. Exposure to inorganic mercury resulted in more pronounced metabolic perturbations in comparison to monomethylmercury, while most metabolic disturbances were common between the two treatments.

Methylmercury formation in boreal wetlands in relation to chemical speciation of mercury(II) and concentration of low molecular mass thiols

Van Liem-Nguyen et al.

Summary: This study investigated the relationship between Hg-II speciation and MeHg formation in boreal wetlands, using isotopic tracers and thermodynamic speciation models. The results showed a decisive role of Hg-II concentration in porewater for Hg-II methylation, and a significant positive correlation between methylation potential and low molecular mass thiol compounds of biological origin.

Elucidation of crude siderophore extracts from supernatants of Pseudomonas sp. ZnCd2003 cultivated in nutrient broth supplemented with Zn, Cd, and Zn plus Cd

Orapan Meesungnoen et al.

Summary: The research focused on siderophores produced by the Zn/Cd tolerant bacterium Pseudomonas sp. PDMZnCd2003. The production of siderophores was found to be linked to primary metabolites, with metal stress, especially Cd, inducing their production. This information could be useful for understanding how Pseudomonas species respond to metal-contaminated environments.

D-Penicillamine: The State of the Art in Humans and in Dogs from a Pharmacological and Regulatory Perspective

Michela Pugliese et al.

Summary: Chelant agents, particularly D-penicillamine, are commonly used in both human and veterinary medicine for treating copper-associated hepatitis. Despite lacking approval from regulatory authorities, D-penicillamine has been used in dogs since the 1970s and prescribed legally by veterinarians. This study aims to address the pharmacological features, the clinical scenario leading to increased interest in D-penicillamine, and its use in veterinary medicine from a regulatory perspective.
