The Pseudomonas aeruginosa homeostasis enzyme AlgL clears the periplasmic space of accumulated alginate during polymer biosynthesis

Andreea A. Gheorghita et al.

Summary: This study investigates the structure and function of AlgL, an alginate lyase in Pseudomonas aeruginosa. Key active site residues, R249 and Y256, are identified. The results show that AlgL is necessary for clearing accumulated polymers and maintaining membrane integrity during alginate production. The AlgU/T sigma factor can compensate for an algL deletion. Overall, this study clarifies the role of AlgL in alginate biosynthesis.

The role of dctP gene in regulating colonization, adhesion and pathogenicity of Vibrio alginolyticus strain HY9901

Yilin Zhang et al.

Summary: This study found that attenuated function of DctP in V. alginolyticus leads to significant decreases in swarming motility, biofilm formation, ECPase formation, cell adhesion, and colonization ability, and a 40-fold increase in LD50 for the Delta dctP strain compared to the WT strain. Transcriptome analysis demonstrated that the deletion mutation of dctP could regulate the expression levels of 22 genes related to colonization, adhesion, and pathogenicity.

Thirupathi Kasthuri et al.

Summary: The study aimed to evaluate the rapid killing efficacy of carvacrol and nerol, and demonstrated their broad-spectrum antimicrobial activity against multiple strains. The combination of carvacrol and nerol showed efficient activity at reduced concentrations and had the potential to disrupt biofilm components. In addition, the combination had no adverse effect on cells at a certain concentration.

ClpP1P2 peptidase activity promotes biofilm formation in Pseudomonas aeruginosa

Gina D. Mawla et al.

Summary: ClpP1 and ClpP2 in Pseudomonas aeruginosa play distinct roles in protein degradation, affecting biofilm development. They exhibit different peptide cleavage specificities and interact differentially with unfoldases, contributing to different biological outcomes. This specificity highlights ClpP2 as a potential target for antimicrobial agents in interfering with late-stage P. aeruginosa development.
