Single-Molecule Forster Resonance Energy Transfer-Based Photosensitizer for Synergistic Photodynamic/Photothermal Therapy

Yang Zou et al.

Summary: In this study, a new strategy using the single-molecule Forster resonance energy transfer (smFRET) mechanism was developed to transfer part of the fluorescent energy into heat for combined photodynamic and photothermal therapy. This approach not only improves treatment efficiency but also enables fluorescence imaging. The strategy allows for a combination treatment outcome at relatively low concentrations and light doses.

A Supramolecular Strategy to Engineering a Non-photobleaching and Near-Infrared Absorbing Nano-J-Aggregate for Efficient Photothermal Therapy

Meihui Su et al.

Summary: A supramolecular strategy was presented to build a water-stable, nonphotobleaching, and NIR-absorbing nano-PTA (J-NP) from J-aggregation of halogenated BODIPY dyes for efficient in vivo photothermal therapy. The remodeled J-NP significantly improved cellular uptake efficiency and exhibited efficient antitumor photothermal activities in vivo. This work not only establishes a supramolecular platform for high photothermal performance PTAs but also enables appealing optical functions derived from J-aggregation to be applied in vivo.

Highly Efficient Far-Red/NIR-Absorbing Neutral Ir(III) Complex Micelles for Potent Photodynamic/Photothermal Therapy

Bingqing Liu et al.

Summary: This study presents a neutral Ir(III) complex containing BODIPY-Ir that efficiently generates reactive oxygen species (ROS) and hyperthermia upon far-red light activation, enhancing in vivo tumor suppression through micellization. The complex completely destroys breast tumors and suppresses metastatic nodules under light irradiation, without significant dark cytotoxicity. This approach shows promise in developing potent cancer therapy using far-red/NIR photosensitizers.

Leveraging BODIPY nanomaterials for enhanced tumor photothermal therapy

Chong Ma et al.

Summary: Photothermal therapy (PTT) has gained attention in tumor treatment due to its non-invasiveness and little side effects. Boron-dipyrromethene (BODIPY) is widely used in tumor phototherapy, but issues such as low conversion efficiency and short absorption wavelength exist. Latest research focuses on developing BODIPY nanomaterials to enhance PTT effect.
