Assessing the energy transition in China towards carbon neutrality with a probabilistic framework

Shu Zhang et al.

Summary: A profound transformation is needed in China's energy system to achieve carbon neutrality. The study shows that if emissions peak in 2025, achieving carbon neutrality would require increases in electrification rate, renewable energy usage, solar and wind power, energy storage usage, and negative emissions, as well as a reduction in local air pollutants. The timing of emission peak and carbon budget have significant impacts on decarbonization pathways, technology choices, and transition costs. Early peaking can reduce welfare losses and dependency on carbon removal technologies. Technological breakthroughs, changes in production and consumption patterns, and policy enhancements are urgently needed to achieve carbon neutrality.

Adaptability evaluation of boundary layer schemes for simulation of sea and land breeze circulation in the west coast of the Yellow Sea

Lei Zhang et al.

Summary: A study evaluated the wind field simulated by ten different planetary boundary layer parameterization schemes using a three-dimensional Doppler Wind Lidar. The results showed that the characteristics of the simulated wind field are highly sensitive to the boundary layer parameterization schemes, especially for the sea-land breeze. GBM, MYNN2, and YSU schemes produced more realistic results for the wind field and the occurrence of sea-land breeze due to their inclusion of entrainment effects and local gradient correction terms.

Effective wind power prediction using novel deep learning network: Stacked independently recurrent autoencoder

Lin Wang et al.

Summary: Accurate wind power prediction is crucial for the safety and reliability of power grid operation. The SIRAE model, stacked with independent recurrent autoencoders, demonstrates superior performance in ultra-short-term wind power forecasting. The model extracts structural features and deep connections of data, ultimately leading to effective and stable predictions.

National growth dynamics of wind and solar power compared to the growth required for global climate targets

Aleh Cherp et al.

Summary: The growth dynamics of renewable energy adoption vary between different countries in early and mature stages. While climate mitigation scenarios envision considerable growth of wind and solar energy, scholars disagree on how this growth compares with historical trends.
