Platinum nanoclusters by atomic layer deposition on three-dimensional TiO2 nanotube array for efficient hydrogen evolution

Summary: In this study, the performance of Pt catalyst for hydrogen evolution was improved by fabricating TiO2 nanotube arrays on titanium substrate and subsequently loading Pt nanoclusters through chemical bonding. The stability and capability for hydrogen evolution of Pt catalyst were enhanced by the Ti-O-Pt bond. Furthermore, the 3D porous titanium substrate with open structure further improved the performance of hydrogen evolution reaction.

Designing a smart heterojunction coupling of cobalt-iron layered double hydroxide on nickel selenide nanosheets for highly efficient overall water splitting kinetics

Summary: In this study, heterostructures of nickel selenide and cobalt-iron layer double hydroxide were prepared and showed enhanced catalytic activity for oxygen evolution reaction and hydrogen evolution reaction through interfacial coupling. These heterostructures exhibited low overpotentials and Tafel slopes, as well as high catalytic activity at a current density of 10 mA·cm(-2). The enhancement of oxygen evolution reaction performance was confirmed by density functional theory calculations. This study provides a strategy for the development of heteronanostructure electrocatalysts for applications such as metal-air batteries and energy storage, and demonstrates their long-term stability.

Interface Engineering of Hollow CoO/Co4S3@CoO/Co4S3 Heterojunction for Highly Stable and Efficient Electrocatalytic Overall Water Splitting

Summary: Developing a dual-functional catalyst is crucial for improving the performance of electrochemically water splitting. A novel hollow CoO/Co4S3@CoO/Co4S3 heterojunction with a core-shell structure was synthesized as an excellent dual-functional catalyst, exhibiting abundant catalytic active sites and efficient reactant, product, and electrolyte flow. The heterojunction interface promoted both OER and HER reactions, leading to low overpotentials of 190 mV and 81 mV, respectively, at a current density of 10 mA cm-2. Furthermore, the catalyst demonstrated outstanding electrochemical stability and could be driven by a commercial solar panel for water splitting.
