Ultrafast synchrotron X-ray imaging and multiphysics modelling of liquid phase fatigue exfoliation of graphite under ultrasound

Ling Qin et al.

Summary: Ultrasound-assisted liquid phase exfoliation is a promising method for manufacturing 2D materials. Research revealed that the rate and efficiency of graphite layer exfoliation are predominantly determined by the number of imploding bubbles, providing valuable insights for industrial upscaling strategies.

A Microcolumn DC Graphene Sensor for Rapid, Sensitive, and Universal Chemical Vapor Detection

Wenzhe Zang et al.

Summary: This study presents a rapid and sensitive DC graphene electronic sensor that leverages the unique properties of graphene for detecting a broad range of vapor analytes, including polar, nonpolar, organic, and inorganic molecules. The sensing mechanism mainly involves capacitance changes induced by molecular adsorption in the graphene transistor. A novel sensor design integrating a centimeter-scale graphene transistor and a microfabricated flow column enhances the fringing capacitive gating effect.

Highly Concentrated, Conductive, Defect-free Graphene Ink for Screen-Printed Sensor Application

Dong Seok Kim et al.

Summary: This study developed a highly concentrated and conductive ink based on defect-free graphene through a scalable fluid dynamics process. The screen-printed graphene conductor showed high electrical conductivity and maintained high conductivity under mechanical bending, compressing, and fatigue tests. A printed electrochemical sodium ion sensor with high potentiometric sensing performance was fabricated using the newly developed graphene ink.

Fast high-shear exfoliation of natural flake graphite with temperature control and high yield

Sara Lund et al.

Summary: In this study, a fast graphene synthesis method was demonstrated, producing high concentrations of graphene dispersions after only 2 hours of shear exfoliation in an environmentally friendly aqueous medium. The quality of the produced graphene was high and mostly less than 5 layers thick, with improved conductivity of subsequent graphene films achieved through the use of larger graphite flakes and dialysis to remove excess surfactant.

Environment friendly dual-frequency ultrasonic exfoliation of few-layer graphene

Anastasia Tyurnina et al.

Summary: The ultrasound-aided liquid phase exfoliation of graphene in pure water is environmentally friendly and can achieve a high graphene yield. By using a combination of high and low frequency ultrasound sources, larger and more uniform graphene flakes can be produced. Controlling acoustic pressure and utilizing a dual frequency ultrasonic source are critical in optimizing the quality and yield of the graphene exfoliation process.

New insights into sono-exfoliation mechanisms of graphite: In situ high-speed imaging studies and acoustic measurements

Justin A. Morton et al.

Summary: By observing the impact of ultrasound and acoustic cavitation on the exfoliation process of graphite in real-time, the dynamic sequence of graphite layer exfoliation was revealed. The generation of pressures up to 5 MPa and liquid jet velocities of 80 m/s were found to be crucial for the initiation and propagation of the exfoliation process, while bubble oscillations associated with stable cavitation were beneficial for promoting a gentler delamination of graphite layers.
