Interfaces Decrease the Alkaline Hydrogen-Evolution Kinetics Energy Barrier on NiCoP/Ti3C2TX MXene

Hua-Jie Niu et al.

Summary: Heterointerfaces can adjust the adsorption energy and decrease the kinetics energy barrier. The interface between NiCoP and MXene effectively reduces the energy barrier for alkaline hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) by 16.0-22.1%. In addition, the photothermal effect of MXenes can raise the catalyst temperature for energy savings.

One-pot synthesis strategy of sea urchin-like hollow microspheres comprising MoOx nanorods attached via N-doped C as anodes for lithium-ion batteries

Jang Min Choi et al.

Summary: A one-pot synthetic strategy was developed for the fabrication of sea urchin-like hollow microspheres comprising MoOx nanorods attached via N-doped C. The strategy utilized diethylenetriamine as a key starting material for the formation of MoOx nanorods constituting the hollow shell. The resulting nanostructure exhibited superior cycling performance as an anode for Li-ion batteries, with a discharge capacity of 794 mA h g(-1) after 400 cycles at 0.2 A g(-1) and low decay rate.

Two-Dimensional Porous Molybdenum Phosphide/Nitride Heterojunction Nanosheets for pH-Universal Hydrogen Evolution Reaction

Ying Gu et al.

Summary: A new strategy for synthesizing 2D porous MoP/Mo2N heterojunction nanosheets with excellent HER activity was presented in this study. The nanosheets exhibit favorable water dissociation kinetics, large accessible surface area, and enhanced mass-transport ability through pores, leading to low overpotentials in alkaline, neutral, and acidic electrolytes. The HER performance of the nanosheets surpasses that of commercial Pt/C in both neutral and alkaline media.

Co-Constructing Interfaces of Multiheterostructure on MXene (Ti3C2Tx)-Modified 3D Self-Supporting Electrode for Ultraefficient Electrocatalytic HER in Alkaline Media

Zepeng Lv et al.

Summary: The passage introduces an outstanding electrocatalyst with multiple heterostructure interfaces and a 3D porous structure, clarifying the mechanisms of enhanced electrocatalytic activity through multiple characterizations and density functional calculations. Specifically, the fabricated CPN@TC catalyst demonstrates excellent HER activity in 1 M KOH, attributed to its multiheterointerfaces for water and hydrogen adsorption, fine conductivity for electron transmission, and well-designed structure for rapid ion and gas transport. The study suggests that the synthetic strategy can be extended to enhance the catalytic performance of transition-metal-based phosphides.

Heterostructuring Mesoporous 2D Iridium Nanosheets with Amorphous Nickel Boron Oxide Layers to Improve Electrolytic Water Splitting

Yunqing Kang et al.

Summary: A 2D heterostructure consisting of amorphous nickel boron oxide and crystalline mesoporous iridium has been designed for water splitting, showing superior electrochemical performance in both oxygen evolution reaction and hydrogen evolution reaction. The well-defined heterostructure and strong interfacial coupling contribute to abundant catalytically active heterointerfaces and boosted exposure of active sites. Tuning the electronic state of the iridium sites by hybridizing with nickel boron oxide layers further enhances the overall performance of the heterostructures.

Yi Tang et al.

Summary: The annealing atmosphere significantly impacts the structure and performance of phosphorus-doped molybdenum carbide nanodots hybridized with Ti3C2 MXene flakes in the hydrogen evolution reaction. Nanohybrids annealed in H2/Ar demonstrate the best HER performances, attributed to optimal P-Mo2C nanodots, highly conductive Ti3C2 matrix, and N-doped carbon. This work highlights the potential of MXenes-based electrocatalysts by manipulating the annealing atmosphere.
