Intercepting IRE1 kinase-FMRP signaling prevents atherosclerosis progression

Zehra Yildirim et al.

Summary: ER stress induces phosphorylation of FMRP, leading to suppression of cholesterol efflux and efferocytosis. FMRP deficiency and inhibition of IRE1 kinase activity enhance cholesterol efflux and efferocytosis, reducing atherosclerosis.

miR-16-5p Suppression Protects Human Cardiomyocytes against Endoplasmic Reticulum and Oxidative Stress-Induced Injury

Rocio Toro et al.

Summary: Oxidative stress plays a significant role in cardiovascular diseases, and endoplasmic reticulum stress is an important source of reactive oxygen species. miR-16-5p could promote oxidative stress through ER stress induction and regulation of ATF6. Analysis of oxidative markers in the plasma of ischemic dilated cardiomyopathy patients showed a correlation with oxidative stress. Overexpression of miR-16-5p increased oxidative stress in cardiomyoblasts, while its suppression decreased apoptosis, inflammation, and cardiac damage through activation of the ATF6-mediated cytoprotective pathway. ATF6 was identified as a direct target gene of miR-16-5p.

LncRNA AC061961.2 overexpression inhibited endoplasmic reticulum stress induced apoptosis in dilated cardiomyopathy rats and cardiomyocytes via activating wnt/β-catenin pathway

Zhibing Qiu et al.

Summary: The down-regulated lncRNA AC061961.2 in dilated cardiomyopathy (DCM) patients has a regulatory effect on DCM. Overexpression of AC061961.2 can inhibit endoplasmic reticulum stress-induced apoptosis in DCM rats and cardiomyocytes by activating the Wnt/beta-catenin pathway.

MicroRNA-494 Regulates Endoplasmic Reticulum Stress in Endothelial Cells

Namita Chatterjee et al.

Summary: The study demonstrates the functional role of miR-494 in ER stress, showing that its expression is affected by ER stress inducers and hyperglycemia. Pre-treatment with miR-494 can mitigate ER stress induced by ER stress inducers and increase cell viability. It is suggested that ER stress-driven miR-494 may function in a feedback inhibitory loop.
