Conservation management decreases surface runoff and soil erosion

Xuan Du et al.

Summary: This study compares agricultural production with and without conservation management strategies and finds that conservation practices significantly reduce surface runoff and soil erosion. Cover cropping provides the best results in reducing erosion and surface runoff, and coarse- and medium-textured soils experience greater decreases in erosion and runoff compared to fine-textured soils. Additionally, surface runoff and soil erosion under conservation management are highly correlated with soil organic carbon, aggregation, porosity, infiltration, leaching, and yield.

Multiple-to-multiple path analysis model

Yujie Du et al.

Summary: The study introduces a multiple-to-multiple path analysis model that can better describe the complex regulatory mechanisms of multiple independent variables to multiple dependent variables by dividing the generalized determination coefficient to show different paths. The research example demonstrates that the multiple-to-multiple path analysis model can provide better analysis results.

Effect of soil and water conservation measures on the reduction of runoff and sediment load in a loess hilly-gully region

Y. Zhao et al.

Summary: The study shows that soil and water conservation are the main factors in reducing annual runoff and sediment load in the small Lvergou basin on the Loess Plateau. Among all conservation measures, terraces are the most sensitive to the basin’s runoff and sediment load. There were noticeable changes in the rainfall-flood and rainfall-sediment relationships under extreme rainfall conditions, with a decrease in flooding and sediment load in the river basin after 2000.
