Evaluation and optimization of the water diversion system of ecohydrological restoration megaproject of Tarim River, China, through wavelet analysis and a neural network

Summary: This study used wavelet analysis to evaluate the effects of flow regimes of ecological water transport projects (EWTP) on ecohydrological system dynamics. The results showed that the restoration flow exhibited seasonal periodicities different from natural streams, leading to distinct groundwater dynamics and mismatched growth rhythm of riparian vegetation. Two designed flow schemes based on time lags between flow and vegetation growth were proposed to optimize the EWTP and improve ecosystem restoration efficiency. The NARX network was used for ecological restoration prediction, showing a significant increase in restoration flow compared to the original flow. The methodologies used in this study are rigorous and applicable to other EWTPs.

Hydrological connectivity assessment of landscape ecological network to mitigate development impacts

Summary: The study focused on analyzing the hydrological connectivity within the landscape ecological network of Gharesou watershed in Iran using Graph theory to mitigate negative impacts of land use developments. By assessing future land use arrangements, the study identified critical areas, ecosystem services hotspots, and incompatible land uses, and used Circuit Theory to identify future critical areas in runoff source networks. Optimization of land use arrangements through Simulating Annealing algorithm helped balance ecological suitability and ecological network relationships, ultimately minimizing hydrological and ecological costs.

Ecological Network Optimization in Urban Central District Based on Complex Network Theory: A Case Study with the Urban Central District of Harbin
