Spatial and Temporal Variability of Grassland Grasshopper Habitat Suitability and Its Main Influencing Factors

Bobo Du et al.

Summary: This study used the Maxent model to simulate the grasshopper suitability index in Hulunbuir grassland and analyzed the potential outbreak areas and main influencing factors. The results showed that suitable areas were mainly located in the eastern and southern parts of the study area, and differences in environmental factors drove the spatial variability of suitable areas.

Study on the Forming Mechanism of the High-Density Spot of Locust Coupled with Habitat Dynamic Changes and Meteorological Conditions Based on Time-Series Remote Sensing Images

Jing Guo et al.

Summary: This study investigated the forming mechanism of high-density locust spots (HDSL) by using support vector machine, random forest, and maximum likelihood methods. The results showed that suitable habitat and meteorological conditions led to an annual increase in locust quantity, resulting in the formation of HDSL.

Detecting Key Factors of Grasshopper Occurrence in Typical Steppe and Meadow Steppe by Integrating Machine Learning Model and Remote Sensing Data

Longhui Lu et al.

Summary: This study examines the spatial distribution and key factors of grasshopper occurrence in two grass types in Inner Mongolia, China using a combination of Maxent modeling and remote sensing data. The results show that the typical steppe is more suitable for grasshopper habitat compared to the meadow steppe. Soil type, above biomass, altitude, and temperature are the main environmental factors that determine grasshopper occurrence, with significant differences in their contribution between the two grass types. Vegetation and meteorological factors also have an impact on the different growth stages of grasshoppers in the two grass types. This study provides valuable insights into the environmental factors influencing grasshopper occurrence and offers a methodology for early warning and prevention of grasshopper pests.

Modeling current and future potential distributions of desert locust Schistocerca gregaria (Forskal) under climate change scenarios using MaxEnt

Arnob Saha et al.

Summary: Climate changes can affect the distribution of pests by altering suitable climatic conditions and niches, and modeling with MaxEnt under different climate change scenarios is an effective approach for pest management. The study predicted the potential distribution of Schistocerca gregaria based on socio-economic pathways for 2050 and 2070, revealing a decrease in high-potential habitats in the future.

Influence of rainfall events on soil moisture in a typical steppe of Xilingol

D. A. Haiyan et al.

Summary: The study revealed that the impact of rainfall events on soil moisture is dependent on both the amount of rainfall and the initial soil moisture content. Rainfall events less than 7.0 mm were found to be insufficient to improve soil moisture levels, while only rainfall over 55 mm could penetrate the soil below 50 cm. Additionally, the soil moisture content varied at different depths.

Application of Remote Sensing Data for Locust Research and Management-A Review

Igor Klein et al.

Summary: Remote sensing has become a crucial tool in mapping, monitoring, and predicting locust habitats and outbreaks. Studies have predominantly focused on species such as the desert locust, migratory locust, and Australian plague locust, with limited research on other destructive locust species. Advances in technology, such as data fusion and UAV systems, offer new opportunities for more effective locust management.

Effects of Soil Temperature and Moisture on the Development and Survival of Grasshopper Eggs in Inner Mongolian Grasslands

Tingjuan Wu et al.

Summary: The study found that the water content of grasshopper eggs was positively correlated with soil moisture, but negatively correlated with hatching time. The relationship between hatching rate and soil moisture was unimodal. High soil temperature and low soil moisture had a significantly negative effect on egg development, survival, and hatching.
