Insights into the day-night sources and optical properties of coastal organic aerosols in southern China

Qian Zhang et al.

Summary: This study investigated the impact of organic aerosols (OAs) in PM2.5 on the atmospheric radiation balance in Sanya, China. The results showed that PAHs were the major components of OAs, primarily derived from fresh fuel combustion. Significant day-night differences were observed in the loadings of NACs, PAHs, and n-alkancs, with higher concentrations during the day. The study also identified motor vehicle and biomass burning emissions as the main pollution sources during the daytime, and industrial coal combustion emissions as the main source at nighttime.

Modeling the Aerosol Extinction in Marine and Coastal Areas

Gennady A. Kaloshin

Summary: The study demonstrates the capability of the MaexPro model to accurately calculate aerosol extinction coefficients and SSA particle concentrations under different wind regimes, fetches, and humidity conditions. The model results agree well with experimental data and calculations using ANAM and MODTRAN codes, highlighting its importance in climate characteristics calculations and lidar data interpretation.

A novel lidar system for profiling the aerosol hygroscopic growth factor

Qiang Wang et al.

Summary: In this study, a multi-wavelength polarized Raman lidar system was designed to detect the hygroscopic characteristics of aerosol particles. Numerical simulations were conducted to verify the feasibility of this lidar system in detecting aerosol hygroscopic growth factor profiles. The results showed that the lidar system was effective in detecting the aerosol hygroscopic growth factor profiles.

Effects of chemical compositions in fine particles and their identified sources on hygroscopic growth factor during dry season in urban Guangzhou of South China

Jiwei Li et al.

Summary: This study investigated the hygroscopicity of aerosols in urban Guangzhou, finding that it varies depending on emission sources and chemical compositions. By parameterizing the hygroscopic growth of different sources, it provides valuable input for air quality and radiative transfer models.
