Discussion on InSAR Identification Effectivity of Potential Landslides and Factors That Influence the Effectivity

Jingtao Liang et al.

Summary: This study utilized synthetic aperture radar (SAR) data with different wavelength types and processing methods to explore the identification application effects of large-area potential landslides in the southwest mountainous area of China. The results showed the significant influence of satellite orbit direction, monitoring period, geological environmental conditions, and vegetation coverage on landslide identification.

Investigation of Sentinel-1-derived land subsidence using wavelet tools and triple exponential smoothing algorithm in Lagos, Nigeria

Femi Emmanuel Ikuemonisan et al.

Summary: Long-term groundwater abstraction and indiscriminate siting of private borehole in Lagos have led to land subsidence, with the study showing that land subsidence is influenced by groundwater-level fluctuations and soil moisture variability. The predicted model has high accuracy in forecasting land subsidence.

Multi-Temporal Small Baseline Interferometric SAR Algorithms: Error Budget and Theoretical Performance

Antonio Pepe

Summary: This study utilized error noise propagation and perturbation theories to derive theoretical error bounds of ground displacement products in the small baseline (SB) differential interferometric synthetic aperture radar algorithms, using a general formulation of the least-squares (LS) optimization problem. The study emphasized the effects of time-uncorrelated phase unwrapping mistakes and time-inconsistent phase disturbances on SB interferograms, creating a theoretical basis for further developments aimed at quantifying error budget and studying phase artefacts in InSAR data products. Experiments supported the developed theoretical framework using a sequence of synthetic aperture radar (SAR) images collected by the ASAR sensor onboard the ENVISAT satellite.

The Spatiotemporal Relationship between Landslides and Mechanisms at the Heifangtai Terrace, Northwest China

Tianfeng Gu et al.

Summary: Landslide disasters in the Chinese Loess Plateau (CLP) are frequently caused by increased agricultural irrigation. Through a case study at the Heifangtai terrace, the evolution process and mechanism of irrigation-induced landslides were investigated using remote sensing images, topographic maps, and unmanned aerial vehicle data. The findings revealed that landslides involve retrogression, lateral extension, and clustering, with groundwater level rise being a key factor in triggering landslides.

Semi-automated regional classification of the style of activity of slow rock-slope deformations using PS InSAR and SqueeSAR velocity data

Chiara Crippa et al.

Summary: The study combines original inventory of slow rock-slope deformations with PS-InSAR and SqueeSAR datasets to develop a semi-automated approach for characterizing and classifying slow rock-slope deformations in Lombardia. By analyzing displacement rate distributions and using machine learning classification, the study identifies groups of slow rock-slope deformations with consistent styles of activity, providing objective and cost-effective support for land planning and infrastructure integrity prioritization.

Analysis of Groundwater Depletion/Inflation and Freeze-Thaw Cycles in the Northern Urumqi Region with the SBAS Technique and an Adjusted Network of Interferograms

Baohang Wang et al.

Summary: The study investigated large-scale ground deformations threatening the northern district of Urumqi, China, which are linked to groundwater exploitation and seasonal freeze-thaw cycles. Using satellite data and a Mt-InSAR approach, the research found that ground deformations can be accurately captured, with an optimal small baseline interferogram network identified for producing ground deformation products. The study also revealed the maximum ground deformation rate in the farmland area and seasonal ground displacement signals caused by overexploitation of groundwater, irrigation, and freeze-thaw phases.
