Neural network guided interpolation for mapping canopy height of China's forests by integrating GEDI and ICESat-2 data

Xiaoqiang Liu et al.

Summary: This study developed a novel neural network guided interpolation (NNGI) method to map forest canopy height using integrated spaceborne lidar data and optical images. The results showed high mapping accuracy, demonstrating the feasibility of the proposed method for monitoring forest canopy height at national to global scales and advancing our understanding of forest ecosystem processes and carbon storage.

Assessing the agreement of ICESat-2 terrain and canopy height with airborne lidar over US ecozones

Lonesome Malambo et al.

Summary: The study evaluated the agreement between canopy height estimates from ICESat-2 and ALS data in 12 sites across six major biomes in the United States. It found high agreement for terrain heights but lower agreement for canopy heights. Literature showed that the performance of ATL08 canopy heights varied with canopy cover, being more suitable for dense canopy environments.

Fusing simulated GEDI, ICESat-2 and NISAR data for regional aboveground biomass mapping

Carlos Alberto Silva et al.

Summary: This study presents a multi-sensor data fusion approach for accurate mapping of forest aboveground biomass (AGB) using data from GEDI, ICESat-2, and NISAR missions. Testing in Sonoma County, USA, demonstrates that the fusion framework provides more accurate AGB estimates compared to individual mission data, highlighting opportunities for improved AGB mapping through data fusion.

Effects of Spatial Resolution on Burned Forest Classification With ICESat-2 Photon Counting Data

Meng Liu et al.

Summary: Accurately monitoring forest fire activities is crucial for understanding carbon dynamics and climate change. This study focused on the effects of spatial resolution when using LiDAR data to differentiate burned and unburned forests, using ICESat-2 data and Sentinel-2 images. The results show that spatial resolution significantly influences the detected canopy structures.
