Effect of Gravity and Various Operating Conditions on Proton Exchange Membrane Water Electrolysis Cell Performance

Yena Choi et al.

Summary: This study investigated the factors leading to the performance degradation of proton exchange membrane water electrolysis, including operating temperature, flow rate, cell orientation, and channel pattern. The results showed that increasing the operating temperature and reducing the flow rate can improve the performance of PEMWE, and the variation in cell orientation also affects its efficiency.

A review of alkaline solid polymer membrane in the application of AEM electrolyzer: Materials and characterization

Zulfirdaus Zakaria et al.

Summary: Electrochemical water splitting is a practical system for green hydrogen production, with alkaline electrolyzers and proton exchange membrane electrolyzers at advanced commercial levels. Anion exchange membrane (AEM) electrolyzers are recommended for their ability to address crucial issues with previous electrolyzer types, such as the use of non-platinum and non-Nafion membrane materials, high hydrogen storage density, and the ability to build compact micro-cells. The efficiency of the AEM electrolyzer is influenced by the solid polymer alkaline membrane, which serves as an anode and cathode separator, ion transfer pathway, and electron flow barriers.

Review on bipolar plates for low-temperature polymer electrolyte membrane water electrolyzer

Husaini Teuku et al.

Summary: Electrolysis coupled with renewable energy resources is the most promising method for green hydrogen production. The bipolar plates (BPPs) in a polymer electrolyte membrane water electrolyzer (PEMWE) are crucial for ensuring high performance and durability. Understanding the role of BPPs in mass transport and electrical charge transfer is essential for optimizing their specific application in PEMWE.
