Preparation and characterization of aminated co-solvent enhanced lignocellulosic fractionation lignin as a renewable building block for the synthesis of non-isocyanate polyurethanes

Xianzhi Meng et al.

Summary: Lignin, a major bioresource, has the potential to be used as a building block for biopolymer production. In this study, highly pure lignin extracted from co-solvent enhanced lignocellulosic fractionation was utilized to produce biobased non-isocyanate polyurethanes. The mechanical properties of these lignin based polyurethanes can be adjusted by modifying the lignin constituents. The addition of aminated lignin improves the thermal stability of the materials.
