Poloxamer-Based Hydrogel as Drug Delivery System: How Polymeric Excipients Influence the Chemical-Physical Properties

Elisa Brambilla et al.

Summary: Thermogelling amphiphilic block copolymers, such as poloxamer 407, have great potential for pharmaceutical drug carriers. This study investigates the effect of pH and inclusion of different hydrophilic polymers on the properties of P407 thermogels. The synthesized gels are characterized in terms of sol-gel transition temperature, viscosity, erosion degree, and mucoadhesion properties. Additionally, the release pathway of two antibacterial drugs commonly used in oral diseases is studied.
