Summary: In this study, raspberry leaves were converted into powder and used as a new low-cost adsorbent for removing methylene blue from aqueous solutions. Various techniques were applied for characterizing the adsorbent, and the effects of pH, ionic strength, contact time, adsorbent dose, initial concentration, and temperature on adsorption capacity were investigated. The research showed that the adsorption process is spontaneous, favorable, and endothermic, and the maximum adsorption capacity of the raspberry leaf powder was higher compared to other plant leaf-based adsorbents.

Summary: In this study, a novel polymeric chelating resin, Dowex-M4195, was used as an alternative for investigating the behavior of copper (II) in acidic solution through an ion exchange method. The optimized conditions yielded a copper (II) removal capacity of approximately 31.33 mg/g at a low pH. The findings suggest that H+ Dowex-M4195 can be applied as a precursor for the reuse and regeneration of copper (II) in electronic waste industries and other wastewater applications.

Summary: This research evaluated the effectiveness of natural zeolite, activated carbon, and activated alumina as low-cost adsorbents for reducing water hardness. The results showed that NaCl-modified zeolite, natural zeolite, and NaCl-HCl-modified activated carbon performed better in reducing parameters. The equilibrium data fit well with the Langmuir isotherm model, and the kinetic data followed the pseudo-second-order model. The equilibrium study indicated that both chemical and physical adsorption were involved in the adsorption process.

Summary: The removal of dyes has become a significant problem in recent years, and finding green and eco-friendly adsorbents is a crucial task. In this study, almond shells were used as an adsorbent to remove methyl orange from aqueous solutions. The adsorption process reached equilibrium at 90 minutes and followed the pseudo-second-order kinetic model. The Langmuir adsorption isotherm model was found to be suitable, with a maximum adsorption capacity of 15.63 mg/g. Thermodynamic analysis indicated that the adsorption process was non-spontaneous, endothermic, and physical in nature.

Summary: The adsorption efficiency of Pb(II) and Cd(II) from aqueous solutions using m-phenylenediamine-modified Amberlite XAD-4 resin was investigated. The impact of various factors such as pH, adsorbent amount, initial metal concentration, eluent type and volume, and flow rate on the retention of the metal ions was studied through column studies. The optimal conditions for quantitative adsorption were found to be pH 5, 10 mg/L concentration, 30 minutes stirring time, 0.2 g adsorbent amount, and 2.5 mL/min flow rate. The sorption data fit well with both the Langmuir and Freundlich equations, and the resin showed high metal adsorption capacity and satisfactory recovery of Pb(II) and Cd(II).

Summary: Industrial activities of the last century have led to increased human exposure to heavy metals such as mercury, lead, chromium, cadmium, and arsenic, resulting in acute or chronic poisonings through water, air, and food. These heavy metals accumulate in the body, causing toxic effects on various tissues and organs by disrupting cellular events and inducing oxidative stress. Common mechanisms of action of these metals include ROS generation, inhibition of antioxidant defense, enzyme inactivation, and selective binding to specific macromolecules, some leading to genomic instability and carcinogenicity through DNA damage and oxidative stress. Despite current knowledge, heavy metal poisoning incidents remain prevalent, necessitating preventive measures and effective treatment, possibly including chelation therapy.
