Combined effects of sustained bending loading, water immersion and fiber hybrid mode on the mechanical properties of carbon/glass fiber reinforced polymer composite

Guijun Xian et al.

Summary: The study investigated the mechanical properties of carbon/glass fiber hybrid plates and found that the random fiber hybrid mode helps to synergize the carbon and glass fibers and enhance mechanical performance. Furthermore, compared to the core-shell hybrid mode, the random hybrid mode showed a more significant increase in tensile and flexural strength after 360 days.

Dynamic behavior of screwed joints for CFRP composite laminate structures under impact loading

Ahmet Can et al.

Summary: The detachable joining techniques in composite laminates, compared to metals, are limited and considered as one of the major obstacles in developing composite structures. This study examines the dynamic behavior of screwed joints in CFRP composite laminates, finding that the damage mechanism changes with the increase of pitch, and the maximum dynamic failure loads range from 27.55 kN to 78.12 kN.

Mechanical performance evolution and life prediction of prestressed CFRP plate exposed to hygrothermal and freeze-thaw environments

Guijun Xian et al.

Summary: The study highlights the significant role of long-term prestressed loss and mechanical property evolution in steel/concrete structures strengthened with prestressed CFRP plates. A new prestressed tension device and anchorage system were proposed to enhance the reliability and load-bearing capacity of CFRP plates. Exposure of CFRP plates to elevated temperatures, distilled water, and sustained loading resulted in gradual degradation of tensile strength.

Mechanical and microstructural characterization of AZ31 magnesium - carbon fi ber reinforced polymer joint obtained by friction stir interlocking technique

Tianhao Wang et al.

Summary: Friction Stir Interlocking (FSI) is a process used for joining dissimilar materials with different properties by combining friction stir welding with mechanical interlocking using a third body interlock. Through microstructural characterization and lap shear tensile testing, it was found that FSI joints effectively joined carbon fiber reinforced polymer and AZ31 magnesium alloy sheets. Finite element analysis was conducted to simulate different FSI configurations, with simulation results showing good agreements with experimental data in terms of load-displacement curves and fracture paths of CFRP.

Maojun Li et al.

Summary: This study comprehensively investigated the dynamic responses of hybrid bonded-riveted CFRP/Al joints under high speed loading and cyclic salt spray exposure conditions, revealing that loading speed can affect the load-carrying capability of the joints, and salt spray exposure leads to a progressive decline in peak load, fail displacement, and energy absorption of the joints.

Post-processing of 3D printed thermoplastic CFRP composites using cryogenic machining

Nicholas Cococcetta et al.

Summary: This study aims to improve the dimensional accuracy and surface finish of 3D printed CFRP composites by analyzing the effectiveness of three sustainable machining practices: dry, minimum quantity lubrication (MQL), and cryogenic machining. Results show that cryogenic machining significantly reduces burr formation and tool wear, improves surface finish, and can be a suitable post-process technique for 3D printed CFRP composites.

Tauqir Nasir et al.

Summary: This study investigated the welding of AA7075-T651 and Ti-6Al-4V alloys with additional carbon fiber-reinforced polymer using friction stir spot welding. The results showed the significant effects of welding parameters and the presence of Ti3Al and Ti-Al-C intermetallic compounds on the mechanical and microstructural properties of the weld joint. The study also found that dwell time plays an important role in determining the tensile shear load of the weld joint.
