The reduction of adhesive application in plywood manufacturing by using nanocellulose-reinforced urea-formaldehyde resin

Jakub Kawalerczyk et al.

Summary: The study found that adding nanocellulose in plywood production can significantly improve bonding quality and mechanical properties, while also reducing resin spread rate. Although the introduction of nanocellulose did not reduce free formaldehyde content, it led to a slight decrease in emitted formaldehyde by allowing a reduction in adhesive application.

Characteristics of beech bark and its effect on properties of UF adhesive and on bonding strength and formaldehyde emission of plywood panels

Pavlo Bekhta et al.

Summary: The study found that beech bark can effectively reduce formaldehyde emissions and improve bonding strength in plywood manufacturing. Adding 5 wt% bark resulted in the highest formaldehyde absorption and best bonding strength. Additionally, plywood panels with all investigated bark concentrations met the requirements of the EN 314-2 standard for bonding strength.

THE SOY FLOUR AS AN EXTENDER FOR UF AND MUF ADHESIVES IN BIRCH PLYWOOD PRODUCTION

Jakub Kawalerczyk et al.

Summary: The study aimed to investigate the effect of protein-rich soy flour as an extender for formaldehyde-containing amino resins. Results showed that soy flour had a favorable composition and formaldehyde-scavenging ability. Addition of soy flour affected resin properties such as viscosity and gel time but showed no influence on their pH and solid content.

Octadecylamine as chemical modifier for tuned hydrophobicity of surface modified cellulose: toward organophilic cellulose nanocrystals

Mohammed Majdoub et al.

Summary: A novel method for producing organophilic cellulose nanocrystals (CNC-ODA) from microcrystalline cellulose (MCC) was proposed. Surface modification of MCC was achieved through chemical oxidation, citric acid esterification, and amidation reactions. The resulting nanocrystals exhibited improved hydrophobicity and thermal stability compared to unmodified MCC.
