All-Cellulose Composite Laminates Made from Wood-Based Textiles: Effects of Process Conditions and the Addition of TEMPO-Oxidized Nanocellulose

Eija-Katriina Uusi-Tarkka et al.

Summary: In this study, sustainable all-cellulose composites (ACCs) were produced and the effects of dissolution time, hot press temperature, and the addition of TEMPO-oxidized nanocellulose on the properties of the composites were investigated. It was found that incorporating TEMPO-oxidized nanocellulose improved the mechanical properties and elongation at break of the ACCs.

Fabricating Sustainable All-Cellulose Composites

Eija-Katriina Uusi-Tarkka et al.

Summary: Climate change, waste disposal challenges, and emissions from non-renewable materials are driving the production of sustainable composites, such as All-cellulose composites (ACCs). ACCs are fully biodegradable, lightweight, recyclable, and have various beneficial properties, making them competitive in industries like food packing, medical, technical, and vehicles. Research on more specific applications, such as All-cellulose nanocomposites (ACNCs), is expanding the field of sustainable materials.

All-cellulose composites prepared by partially dissolving cellulose using NaOH/thiourea aqueous solution

Fuqiang Hu et al.

Summary: By partially dissolving cellulose in filter paper using NaOH/thiourea aqueous solution, all-cellulose composites (ACCs) were prepared with significantly improved tensile strength and tightly intertwined fibers. The crystalline form and crystallinity of ACCs changed, showing high potential for practical applications in the packaging field.
