Summary: The air temperature in the Antarctic Peninsula region has been warming significantly between the 1950s and 2016, exceeding the global average warming. This has had evident impacts on terrestrial ecosystems and the two native Antarctic vascular plants. There was a short but intense cooling period from the Antarctic Peninsula to the South Orkney Islands. However, the strong warming trend is predicted to resume, and it will have continued impacts on the abiotic and biotic components of terrestrial ecosystems.
