Matriderm dermal substitute in the treatment of post traumatic hand's fingertip tissue loss

Camillo Fulchignoni et al.

Summary: Treatment of finger tissue loss is challenging and often requires advanced reconstructive techniques. This study found that the use of Matriderm(R) for finger tissue loss, with or without skin graft, resulted in similar aesthetic and functional outcomes, suggesting it as a valid treatment option.

Prevalence, Characteristics, and Associated Risk Factors of the Elderly with Hip Fractures: A Cross-Sectional Analysis of NHANES 2005-2010

Yuan-Wei Zhang et al.

Summary: This study aimed to assess the prevalence, characteristics, and risk factors of hip fractures in non-institutionalized elderly in the United States. The results showed an increasing trend in hip fractures among the elderly, with higher prevalence in females. Age (especially 80 years and older), race (mainly Non-Hispanic white), smoking, drinking alcohol, living alone, combined with diabetes and osteoporosis were identified as potential risk factors for hip fractures in the elderly.

Subtarsal Versus Transconjunctival Approach: A Long-Term Follow-Up of Esthetic Outcomes and Complications

Mehmet Oztel et al.

Summary: This study compared the long-term esthetic outcomes of traumatic orbital reconstruction using subtarsal (STA) and transconjunctival approaches, finding that patients who underwent STA surgery had less scar formation according to three different scales. Surgeons had a higher rate of correctly identifying subtarsal scars compared to nonmedical personnel.

The Novel Application of Three-Dimensional Printing Assisted Patient-Specific Instrument Osteotomy Guide in the Precise Osteotomy of Adult Talipes Equinovarus

Yuan-Wei Zhang et al.

Summary: The study compared the clinical efficacy and prognosis of patient-specific instrument (PSI) osteotomy guide assisted by 3D printing in precise osteotomy of adult talipes equinovarus (ATE). The results showed that the 3D printing group had advantages in operative time, intraoperative blood loss, and outcomes based on ICFSG score at last follow-up, indicating the feasibility and superiority of 3D printing assisted osteotomy guide in correcting ATE malformation.

A systematic review of the Logsplitter injury: how much do we know?

Yuan-Wei Zhang et al.

Summary: Logsplitter injury, a proposed type of ankle joint injury, lacks definitive consensuses on diagnosis and management. Falls from height and traffic accidents are the top causes of injury, with clinical outcomes measured using AOFAS score. More multicenter research with larger sample size is needed to better understand and treat this novel concept.

Reconstruction of soft tissue defects around the Achilles region with distally based extended peroneal artery perforator flap

Altug Altinkaya et al.

Summary: This article discusses the use of distally based peroneal artery perforator flap for reconstruction of combined defects of the Achilles tendon and overlying soft tissue in 7 patients. The majority of the flaps (6 out of 7) survived completely with only one case of post-operative venous congestion leading to partial flap necrosis. The advantages of this flap include extended reach for defects, skin texture similarity for convenience with footwear and walking, and creating a protective surface to allow tendon gliding and prevent tissue adhesions.
