Nutrition Care Process Quality Evaluation and Standardization Tool: The Next Frontier in Quality Evaluation of Documentation

Sherri L. Lewis et al.

Summary: Documentation is crucial for communication between nutrition and dietetics practitioners and other healthcare providers. However, there is a lack of validated tool to evaluate the quality of documentation in the Nutrition Care Process (NCP). A quasi-experimental study provides evidence that registered dietitian nutritionist care is aligned with the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics evidence-based nutrition practice guidelines for type 1 and 2 diabetes

Erin Lamers-Johnson et al.

Summary: This study examined the alignment between registered dietitian nutritionists' documented nutrition care and the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics' evidence-based nutrition practice guidelines for diabetes. The results showed that most of the guideline recommendations were implemented, particularly those related to improving glycemic control. However, a midpoint training on the guidelines did not have any impact on the alignment of care.

Impact of Diabetes Prevention Guideline Adoption on Health Outcomes: A Pragmatic Implementation Trial

William J. Murphy et al.

Summary: Limited research exists on the impact of nutrition guidelines on clinical practice and patient health outcomes. This study investigated the effects of guideline training on implementing the diabetes prevention EBNPG and its relationship with health outcomes in prediabetes patients. Improved guideline congruence was observed after training, but it did not significantly impact related health outcomes. Further research is needed to explore the impact of evidence-based guidelines across different practice areas.
