Elemental and radiation attenuation parameter analyses to characterize a Cambisol from the Serra Dourada State Park, Brazil

L. Tech et al.

Summary: This study investigated the radiation interaction parameters and weathering degree of a Cambisol soil using XRF techniques. Results indicated that Fe2O3 had a significant influence on certain parameters, while Z(eff) and N-el showed no correlation. The preserved structure of the Cambisol soil in a conservation unit makes it a suitable reference for similar soils in the region.

Effect of Clay Mineralogy and Soil Organic Carbon in Aggregates under Straw Incorporation

Bin Xue et al.

Summary: The interaction between soil organic carbon (SOC) and clay minerals is critical for soil fertility and long-term agricultural sustainability. This study found that straw incorporation promoted the accumulation of certain organic compounds in clay fractions within soil aggregates. Furthermore, long-term straw incorporation induced the transformation of clay minerals and iron oxides, selectively stabilizing organic compounds derived from straw in clay fractions.

Development of Novel Transparent Radiation Shielding Glasses by BaO Doping in Waste Soda Lime Silica (SLS) Glass

Thair Hussein Khazaalah et al.

Summary: The study involved doping BaO in Bi2O3-ZnO-B2O3-SLS glass to develop lead-free radiation shielding glasses. Results showed that increasing BaO concentration led to decreased HVL and MFP while increased mu(m), suggesting BaO doped in Bi2O3-ZnO-B2O3-SLS glass is an effective and transparent shielding material against radiation.

Investigation of Photon Radiation Attenuation Capability of Different Clay Materials

Mohamed Elsafi et al.

Summary: The study found that bentonite clay has the most effective radiation attenuation capability at 0.060 MeV, while kaolin clay performs the worst. The half value layer increases as energy increases, indicating that a thin layer of clay is sufficient to absorb radiation at low energies.

The Potentials of Egyptian and Indian Granites for Protection of Ionizing Radiation

Mohamed Elsafi et al.

Summary: This study aimed to investigate the radiation shielding characteristics and buildup factor of some types of granite in Egypt. Experimental results showed that the mass attenuation coefficient and buildup factors of the studied granites varied at different energy levels, with red aswani being the most effective at high energy. The findings provide valuable insights for practical applications in the future.
