MADS2 regulates priming defence in postharvest peach through combined salicylic acid and abscisic acid signaling

Chunhong Li et al.

Summary: MADS-box genes have well-known roles in plant development, but their involvement in defense responses is relatively unknown. This study showed that pretreatment of peach fruit with beta-aminobutyric acid (BABA) activated resistance against Rhizopus stolonifer by inducing a defense response including H2O2 burst, ABA accumulation, and callose deposition. The interaction between MADS2 and NPR1 was found to be essential for the transcription of genes associated with pathogenesis resistance and ABA signaling. Additionally, the post-translational modification of MADS2 by MAPK1 was involved in signal amplification for BABA-induced resistance.

PpWRKY45 is involved in methyl jasmonate primed disease resistance by enhancing the expression of jasmonate acid biosynthetic and pathogenesis-related genes of peach fruit

Nana Ji et al.

Summary: MeJA treatment significantly reduces disease occurrence and lesion diameter caused by R. stolonifer in peaches during postharvest storage. It promotes the activity of CHI and GLU, elevates the expression levels of PpLOX, PpAOS, and PpOPR3, and stimulates a specific priming defense against Rhizopus rot in peaches. The transcription factor PpWRKY45 plays a role in MeJA-primed defense against R. stolonifer by activating JA biosynthetic and PR genes in peach fruit.

WRKY transcription factors and plant defense responses: latest discoveries and future prospects

Shabir H. Wani et al.

Summary: WRKY transcription factors are essential regulators in plants, playing critical roles in response to biotic and abiotic stresses. They modulate various biological processes in plants by regulating signal transduction pathways, response to internal signals, developmental coordination, and adaptation to stress environments. Through interactions with other transcription factors, WRKY TFs form part of signaling webs that regulate diverse processes and plant immune response.

Sucrose metabolism and sensory evaluation in peach as influenced by β-aminobutyric acid (BABA)-induced disease resistance and the transcriptional mechanism involved

Chunhong Li et al.

Summary: The study demonstrated the inhibitory effects of different concentrations of BABA on postharvest decay, sugar accumulation, and sensory profiles in peaches. Specifically, 100mmol/L BABA induced direct resistance and suppressed decay progression, while 10mmol/L BABA treatment ignited priming resistance and increased sugar content and sweetness score during storage. The upregulation of specific genes and transcription factors, such as PpWRKY40, played a key role in regulating resistance and sugar metabolism in BABA-treated peaches.
