Application of thermal and visible imaging to estimate stripe rust disease severity in wheat using supervised image classification methods

R. N. Singh et al.

Summary: Reliable and accurate estimation of plant disease severity at the field scale is crucial for predicting yield losses, disease management, and food security. This study demonstrated the potential of thermal and visible imaging techniques in estimating wheat stripe rust severity with good accuracy. The support vector machine method outperformed other methods in estimating rust severity, while the parallelepiped method performed the worst. The study also compared the performance of thermal and visible image classification methods, showing that thermal images generally provided better estimates than visible images.

Monitoring Wheat Powdery Mildew Based on Hyperspectral, Thermal Infrared, and RGB Image Data Fusion

Ziheng Feng et al.

Summary: This study used a spectroradiometer and thermal infrared cameras to obtain hyperspectral signature and thermal infrared images data of wheat with powdery mildew, and constructed a prediction model using multiple algorithms. Among the three data sources, the random forest regression model showed the highest prediction accuracy, particularly in multi-source data fusion modeling, demonstrating the potential for accurate remote sensing monitoring of wheat powdery mildew.

RGB-based phenotyping of foliar disease severity under controlled conditions

Kaique S. Alves et al.

Summary: This study evaluated the visible spectral region of symptomatic leaves of five plant diseases and found high levels of correlation between leaf severity and spectral indices. Boosted regression tree models achieved high prediction accuracies for some diseases but lower accuracies for others, suggesting a direct relationship between model performance and disease symptomatology. Further improvements are needed for using field- or greenhouse-acquired images.

Wheat Yellow Rust Detection Using UAV-Based Hyperspectral Technology

Anting Guo et al.

Summary: This study utilized UAV-based hyperspectral images to monitor yellow rust disease at the field scale, and found that the VI-TF-based models had the highest accuracy in each infection period, outperforming other models. Spatial resolution significantly influenced the monitoring accuracy of TF-based models, while having a negligible impact on VI-based monitoring accuracy. The optimal spatial resolution for monitoring yellow rust using the VI-TF-based model in each infection period was found to be 10 cm.
