Forest Fire Risk Zone Mapping of Eravikulam National Park in India: A Comparison Between Frequency Ratio and Analytic Hierarchy Process Methods

G. S. Pradeep et al.

Summary: This study uses remote sensing data and geographic information system techniques to delineate forest fire risk zones in Eravikulam National Park. The results show the superiority of the Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP) method over the Frequency Ratio (FR) method for mapping forest fire risk zones. The risk zone maps will be useful for the forest department, planners, and officials of the disaster management department to take effective preventive and mitigation measures.

The Potential of Multispectral Imagery and 3D Point Clouds from Unoccupied Aerial Systems (UAS) for Monitoring Forest Structure and the Impacts of Wildfire in Mediterranean-Climate Forests

Sean Reilly et al.

Summary: The study found that UAS-SfM accurately captures the upper-canopy structure in Mediterranean forests of northern California, but struggles with resolving mid- and below-canopy structure. Adding a normalized difference vegetation index (NDVI) ground point filter improves the accuracy of digital terrain model (DTM) generation. Two years after the Tubbs fire in 2017, significant decreases in UAS-SfM metrics of canopy height and NDVI were observed with increasing burn severity, highlighting the lasting impact of the fire on vegetation health and structure.
