GCPs-Free Photogrammetry for Estimating Tree Height and Crown Diameter in Arizona Cypress Plantation Using UAV-Mounted GNSS RTK

Morteza Pourreza et al.

Summary: This study tested the accuracy of a UAV-mounted GNSS RTK system for measuring tree height and crown height. The results showed that the UAV estimation was comparable to field measurements, indicating the potential of UAV-RTK imagery as a promising solution. However, further research is needed to determine its effectiveness in inaccessible areas.

Photogrammetry Using UAV-Mounted GNSS RTK: Georeferencing Strategies without GCPs

Martin Stroner et al.

Summary: This study examines systematic elevation errors in georeferencing UAV-acquired imagery without using ground control points (GCPs), and proposes strategies for eliminating this error. By conducting multiple flights at different altitudes and image acquisition axes, the research demonstrates a linear dependence between focal length deviation and systematic elevation error, and shows that a combination of two flights with different image acquisition axes can reduce the error to less than 0.03 meters. Overall, georeferencing without GCPs is a feasible alternative to traditional methods.
