Effects of Autotoxicity on Seed Germination, Gas Exchange Attributes and Chlorophyll Fluorescence in Melon Seedlings

Zhizhong Zhang et al.

Summary: Autotoxicity significantly inhibited seed germination and subsequent growth in melon seedlings, leading to a decrease in chlorophyll and carotenoid content, photosynthetic rate, stomatal conductance, and other parameters. OJIP test parameters showed concentration-dependent characteristics of autotoxicity, with specific fluxes or activities per PS II reaction centers increasing under high autotoxicity stress concentrations.

Citrus Huanglongbing detection based on polyphasic chlorophyll a fluorescence coupled with machine learning and model transfer in two citrus cultivars

Haiyong Weng et al.

Summary: This study aimed to assess changes in the structure and functionality of the photosynthetic machinery induced by HLB and establish a discriminant model for rapid HLB detection. The results indicated that the main disturbances in photosynthetic structure and function in HLB-infected leaves were associated with impaired energetic connectivity of antennae in photosystem II, dysfunction of the oxygen-evolving complex, and inhibition of Q(A)(-) reoxidation. Some photosynthetic parameters could potentially be used to distinguish between symptomatic HLB-infected leaves and magnesium deficient leaves.

Harnessing Chlorophyll Fluorescence for Phenotyping Analysis of Wild and Cultivated Tomato for High Photochemical Efficiency under Water Deficit for Climate Change Resilience

Ilektra Sperdouli et al.

Summary: Global climate change significantly affects plant growth and crop yield, with water shortage being a major risk for agriculture in the future. Studying the photosynthetic performance of different tomato cultivars under drought stress helps identify tolerant varieties and effective strategies for sustainable agriculture under deficit irrigation. The redox state of Q(A) is suggested as a better indicator for evaluating photosynthetic efficiency and selecting drought-tolerant cultivars.
